Google has become more cautious about their search results, tweaking their search algorithms day by day. Google has been saying that they want to offer better search experience and information to its users but is it really a true?

I just want to ask a simple from you all experts' guys. Is Google Really worried about Search quality or Just playing a game to increase their PPC Revenue? The main income source of Google is their PPC services and after Penguin update Google PPC revenue has increased by 42% (As per Google Financial Earning Report).

This has been explained several times before.

Google makes its money from the PPC ads shown along side the organic results. If their organic results suck, nobody will use their search engine. When people stop using the search engine, advertisers stop advertising via AdWords. When that happens, Google LOSES money.

So, no, it's not a PPC money grab. They are trying to keep their organic results as relevant as possible to people continue to advertise via AdWords.

I'm tired of hearing that one repeated. That's like saying if McDonald's food sucked people wouldn't eat there. If buying a Chinese made coffee maker at WalMart sucked, people woudn't buy that.

Yeah they would. And they do.

Once companies hit a certain size they appeal to the mass market mediocrity.

People don't give two craps about the quality of Google SERPs. As long as they can 'basically find' what they're looking for, the meat puppets will be as happy and docile as they always are. If that means clicking on Google Ads, all the better for Evil Google Inc.

You should be sorry for an answer like that

The world doesn't work at all like you claim it to. Google is a corporation that is responsible for returning profits to its shareholders. That's their only job and they do it well.

In the end what matters is that people click on their paid ads. Their organic search is a 'loss leader.' If they only offered organic search without the paid search, they would go broke fast. You better believe their emphasis as a company is on the quality of their revenues and not the so-called 'quality of their search.' They don't get paychecks because people love their search, they get paid because people click on their ads.

That's actually how the world works my man.

Right. And if people don't use their search engine, people don't click on their ads. It's really not complicated.

Let's just take it to the extreme for argument's sake. Let's assume FaceBook comes out with their own search engine next month and all existing Google users switch to the the shiny new FaceBook search engine.

What do you think happens to Google's PPC profits??

That's just it. Searching for a 4-slice toaster and finding a first page filled with:

        4-slicetoaster.org
        4slicetoastersreviews.info
        4slicetoasterreviews.net
        4-slicetoastercomaprisons.org
        4slicetoastersversus2slicetoasters.com

        etc, etc

DOESN'T allow the user to 'basically find' what he is looking for. That is exactly why they are killing these sites off.

All that said, I do like Yukon's answer: Does it matter?

I didn't say I was supporting anything. I will say that most of my sites saw significant traffic improvement over the last few days so I can't say I'm disappointed with what they did.

Nice tricky Post this is sure. But Google is really making serious changes in its Organic Searches than Paid Searches. Both must be different team of Google with their own goals. Still i can see many 404 URLs ranked in first page of Google for some highly competitive Keywords for long duration. Google still need to improve its SERP

Whatever the answer is it's their decision. Their business, their decision they owe you nothing and can do what they want with their search results. If you don't like it I am pretty sure they won't miss you...

Sorry, but if they wanted to increase PPC revenue, they would focus their rankings to favor the smaller businesses with smaller or no PPC budgets. That would force the big companies like Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, etc. to increase their PPC spending.

Does it matter one way or the other?

Are you going to change anything Google does?

People who offer SEO services in their sig should be focusing in on their business and their customer's bottom line not worrying about what some other company (Google) is doing or not doing to make money. Skip focusing on things you don't have a single say in changing and focus on your work.

Their organic search is a 'loss leader.'
Do you have proof of this? My guess is that those ads you see on the top of searches pays for their organic search and more. This is just a guess though, I have no proof, so I was hoping you did have some.

That being said, even if it were a 'loss leader', you're ignoring the value of having such a dominant search engine as an asset.

You better believe their emphasis as a company is on the quality of their revenues and not the so-called 'quality of their search.'
What makes you think these 2 goals don't coincide with each other?

Google has an incentive to provide searchers with the best quality content because brand loyalty is based on quality consistency or improvement. Loyalty in turn leads to increased usage, and increased usage means increased revenues.

Obviously Google thinks higher quality searches equals higher revenues for advertisers which equals higher revenues for Google. If this wasn't true, what incentive would they have to change results at all? It'd be wasted resources. Does Google waste resources? The evidence I look at suggests they do not.
