Hi all,

I just finished my eBook, setup my site/paypal payment and went live 2 days ago.

I did a test run on Adwords to test interest, and got about 5,100 clicks with 72 clicks on the Buy Now button over a week. I was quite excited over the 72 "purchases" so I went ahead and wrote the eBook for 5 weeks.

Now for my actual run this week for 3 days on Adwords, my current stats are 2,101 clicks out of 693,169 impressions. I displayed on both Search and Display networks, with about 1,971 clicks coming from Display network.

I had set to display across all countries, and limit to $100/day for both my test run and actual run. For the actual run, I have yet to hit the $100/day limit.

Right now I am very puzzled why my stats differ so much between now and 5 weeks ago, and attempting to diagnose what could have gone wrong.

I am currently doing a keyword scrub, from what I have read around in this forum, finding the right keywords are important.

Can anyone having success with their Adwords campaign advise where I should check, how to check where I may I gone wrong?

I like to add that there is little change for my landing pages between my test run and actual run.

    Please advise!

I'm curious, what do you tell those who buy your book and you haven't got a book to give them?

I think you got lots to learn about Adwords. Hard to diagnose the patient without actually seeing him. Not sure why you think there's a problem. You seem to expect the same number of impressions and clicks each week. That won't necessarily happen. So my best guest is that your ads are lower quality than others. This makes competitors overtake you thus reducing your impressions (especially since you use the content network and is where you get most of your traffic) and of course clicks. I'd take a look at CTR between those periods and average position. Also which sites your ads show up on.

Yeah, your landing page is the problem.

We would have to see it or a picture of it to get an idea of what your problem is.

Conversion from the display network is typically lower.

Split test your landing page and move forward from there

having someone click on a buy now button and having them actually complete the sale are two completely different things.

Did you have a price set in your test run? Was it the same as what you're offering now? I'm a little confused as to how you went about all this and how much did you pay for 5100 clicks in your "test run" ? All sounds a little strange to me

It's an old tool but try "Affiliate Elite" by Bryxen (Brad Callen's company), it grabs your best converting competitor ads (copy and all) so you can make minor adjustments and run profitable campaigns.

    Worth a try, think there's a trial.

I had the same result when I first started with ppc. I would get a lots of click but 0 sales. Then I stop sending clicks to a sales page but used a squeeze page
and captured the lead instead. Basically I had to learn that you want always get a kiss on the first date.

I cannot even figure out what you're saying.

You mention 2 days ago, then 5 weeks. I have no
idea what writing an ebook for 5 weeks means.

You claim you got no sales, but claim you got 72.

Gleaning what I can from what you wrote, I would

Not do it across all countries.
        Just use the display network.
Check what keywords made sales, ditch the rest.

What on earth did you do a test run with?

That test run? If they click the buy button, I sent them to an opt-in page to register for updates. It's a little cheating to be honest, but I wanted to make sure there's demand before I start writing the eBook. I got about 10 opt-in to my mailing list out of the 72 who clicked on the Buy button. Learned a painful lesson some years back, after 2 mths of work w/ $5000 spent but realized at the end there is no demand.

Hmm...but if I had 2400+ clicks, my ads should be decent enough to attract those clicks?

Yeah, I have lots to learn. Adwords is like a monster, or maybe I just haven't get it yet.

I suspect so, I'm rewriting the landing page right now. I checked my Analytics demographics for my actual run this week, the average time spent was 15 secs for my biggest group of visitors by country (from Korea).

I just timed myself reading my landing page for that 15 secs, and I just passed my opening header (100 words). I guess most went off after the header section...

Yes I did set a price, same price of USD$29 for the test run 5 weeks ago and my actual run (started on Tues). I'm guessing it wasn't the price point...

I paid about USD 100 on Adwords for those 5100 clicks during the test run.

My test run 5 weeks ago is simply a landing page -> Opt-in page -> Thank you for registering page, with traffic from Adwords.

If people click on the Buy button on my landing page, I considered it as a purchase. 72 people clicked the Buy button.

I just realized those 72 people, they are from unexpected locations like Mexico, Chile, Pakistan, Venezuela, and NONE from US or Europe where I expect the most response

Why would adwords not show my ads to US and Europe? Is it because my ads bid price can't compete? If I set my ads to show on the Display Network, I can't control which locations I want my ads to show, am I right?

And for checking which keyword made "sales" during my test run (click the Buy button and ending up on my Opt-In page), I got this... Getting alot of this "Not Set" on my analytics...

Right now I'm making changes to my landing page and I reduced the ad locations for both Search / Display networks to just U.S, Canada, Europe and Korea.

What else should I take note of?

A little? If I had bought this, I would have asked for my money back if I didn't get my book right away. The proper way to do things is research if there's demand before creating a product and creating a site for a product that doesn't exist.
