Amazing advice Warock, you are an absolute inspiration.

To OP, you could take a long hard look at one of your sites and see how user friendly it is, whether the articles read really easily, and also double check your backlink profile to see whats going on back there.

Not sure if you saw it but Matt Cutts Tweeted Google is making a small algo change that will hammer LOW quality exact match domains.

EMD will rank well (I would only assume) if they are:

Authority type sites.
Sites with regularly updated content.
Sites with a lot of user engagement
Sites with quality, well written content
Sites with a solid content base
Sites with AGE
Sites with Google Authorship in place
Sites with Social Credibility

It's no secrect what Google wants. These take time to manifest.

Funny enough I still see EMD sites ranking with

- not any kind of authority
- never updated content
- zero user engagement
- only 2 pages of content
- age of less then 1 year
- no Google Authorship
- zero social credibility

So long for your list.

Now the positive parts of that site:

- 100% grammar/spelling error free content
- zero affiliate links

See people that's it, just make sure your content is okay and make sure you don't use an excessive amount of affiliate links. It's all not that hard, just make sure you properly check your $5 article before posting it on your site and preferably don't use affiliate links at your homepage but instead on inner pages and not more then 2-3 of them per page unless you are some price comparison site.

Don't believe me? Look at all those local business owners with their 4 page static sites that have zero of that whole list. They are all just ranking fine same like they always did.

It is so baffling why people run to the hills when in truth all of these updates just seem to make ranking sites so much easier. Before all this if I wrote some content I would hit pages 5-10, now when I write content I hit pages 2-3 (rarely but sometimes on the edge of page 1). I don't have to do anything tricky anymore, 20 minutes of research, 15 minutes of writing and 10 minutes of basic links in key places. Rinse and Repeat. It takes me longer to find an image I like some times then the whole process.

If your sites disappeared from the Google index, then it's probably because it had content I wouldn't want showing up in my search results. Duplicate content. Reposts. Rewritten reposts. Spam.

My advice: slow down and write, write, write.

Forget the algorithms. Write for people. Humans- not robots.

In my experience, my articles have never tanked because I actually sit down and write my own articles. One good article a day. That's it. Hey- it's only one , but it stays ranked for years. YEARS. And the keyword density of targeted KW? Less than 2 percent. Believe me-it's worth every second of effort.

google ranking works on an algorithm. If you deviate from those laid down (hidden) rules you'll get penalized for sure.

Find alternatives for traffic and don't put eggs in one basket.

Mary, stopping SEO isn't a bad idea, at least the type of SEO most people do.

Instead of doing things the old way, I'd recommend working on building your brand and really focusing hard on optimizing your onpage stuff while still getting some creative and very high quality backlinks as well.

And guess what, since the Panda/Penguin, the so called gurus stopped giving advice or posting what work and work doesn't. Everybody has gone underground and left for those who know what to rule over the non informed.

The last update also saw a lot of Non EDM site going off the radar.

Here is some little tips for you and those that wish to know what Google wants and find in SEO today:

1. Quality content
2. Quality Site
3. Quality Links

Type a few EDM keywords that you know and see, you will find lots of sites still ranking for their respective EDM name.

I can guess ! Infact any one guess, that years of efforts and income spoiled IN no time.

But.... Honestly, ask your self, why your sites are disappeared.
Give answer to your self, not to any one.

Google is keep updating, for Quality results. Thin sites will not going to rank.

EMD's are working, even now. But they should have some thing for the real users.

I confirm, thats non of our sites were hit by new google updates. ( there is serious decline in traffic, but from Tuesday, sites are getting back to Normal)

My advice, quality sites are working very well. Make quality sites for users.

What most of us were taught and used to do was to spend 1% of our time on our websites (writing or outsourcing 3-5 articles that are mediocre at best) and 99% of our times chasing links, using automated tools, spinning articles, etc.

The only thing I have learned from my few years in IM is that we need to balance the scales. We need to spend 90%+ of our time on our sites, creating quality content (but not for Google as their "we're looking for quality content" crap is... well, crap), helping our users, etc.

And then spend some time off-page to get links.

SEO is not dead and I don't think it ever will (as long as people are searching for stuff using the engines), it's just that we all were taught to worship SEO and never think about what we were offering to our visitors.

SEO just changed. My sites are still ranked highly in the search engines...

I am 100% whitehat though. No SENuke blasts, no over optimization, no tools. They don't work anymore, sorry to say. Just gimmicks...

Google likes quality sites. If you have quality sites, you will be ranked high in Google...
