Hi everyone,

I've been learning about SEO lately, and today, I read about off-site SEO. So I understand that backlinking is a good way for search engines to include your website, but I'm confused about the connection between backlinking and the keywords that I'm targeting.

Does off-site SEO have anything to do with the keywords that I'm targeting? Or is it just a way to have my link out there?

Thanks for your help.

Justin

Hi Justin, yes - when u backlink - try to use as your anchor text your keyword.

So for instance ...if you want to rank well for keyword "cash cow workshops" , then your anchor text is 'cash cow workshops' and your link is your website / url.

Keep in mind if doing lots of backlinks, to use different keywords for same website - not a good idea to just use only one anchor text keyword (s)

    Cheers Maria

Well of course Keyword plays an important role in off-page optimization 'coz it's the text you place in your links. Targeted keywords are used as anchor text to boost up ranking in search results.

Anchor Text is a keyword who tells to search engine that your site is relevant to this theme. When search engine crawl your link at another sites, it will count a vote for your keyword (which is using in anchor text for your website) and your keyword push in SERP.

a quick start for beginners, in order not to be confused on what keyword you can use for your website, try to use google keyword tool and enter your website, there you will see a list of relevant keywords that you can use for your website, pick keywords with the right amount of searches also with less competitors for your website to easily rank high in search engines for that keyword, about building backlinks try to aim blogs and forums that are relevant to your niche also try to indicate if they were do follow or not there are lots of tools that you can use to know whether a site is do follow or not and also you view its page source and trace if it has rel=nofollow attribute, it's much better to comment on blogs with higher PR as it will be more effective in passing link juice to your site, hope it helps a little, other methods such as social bookmarking, article submission and directory submission are also necessary..
