Hey Good People,

I've been in the IM game since 02, and in my strong opinion. I must say that nothing to date has been more of a benefit to me than PPC. But, as the ongoing evolution of IM becomes stronger. I cannot help but notice how many darn PPC secret this and secret that courses that have emerged...For someone who doesn't have a clue whatsoever of where to start with PPC, and who's been pointed here to the WF. What and where would you start for a sound start in their PPC journey?

Thanks a bunch and I hope the post that come from this question points "you" in the right direction. Ciao!

Peace & Tranquility

I don't think PPC is difficult to work on. But, the difficult side is the clickers itself if you have clickers for your PPC. You must be able to know how to market your PPC.

I think its gotten a little harder in the few years that I've been selling on line, but I also think this is due to my particular 1st niche.

My first campaign was in screen printing, and all of the typical keywords for that field are very expensive, the buyers are generally not spendy, and there is a lot of competition. PPC in that field was pricey, but a lot of the competing ads were of poor quality, so it became cheaper and easier over time.

My second campaign had to do with a singer that had recorded acappella versions of national anthems. That was much easier and the campaign worked wonderfully.

If the ads and landing pages are tightly focused, I don't think its too much harder than it used to be. It takes effort though. Maybe that is the hard part and thus all of the "secret" guides?

I can go back to 2001 using overture, and having any keyword I wanted for 5 cents !, loading up as many as I could and just waiting for the sales. It has changed a bit since then . I would say in the current market, you have to know what your doing, and how to use the tools that are available, in my opinion ppc is now more of science. You need to track your keywords, know which ones convert to sales, ensure your landing pages reflect what your selling.Conversion tracking is essential , I fail to see how anyone can be profitable with ppc if they do not use conversion tracking. Marketing has always been about testing, but we have never had so many tools to help us do it. We can split test ads, and landing pages easier than ever before. The journet starts with a click, but it is only one part of the process. When anyone ever asks me where to start with ppc, I always point them to Perry Marshall, his ebook will at least help with the ppc basics, but beyond that, you have to get your hands dirty and start doing.. oh how I miss those high volume 5 cents days

It's only difficult if you don't know what your doing. Especially if your using all the same methods that everybody is saturating the market with.

    Hi Kevin,

While PPC can be deceptively simple to get started, it is constantly evolving and so are the skills of your competitors. There is a fairly steep learning curve to master the advanced concepts and you pay dearly if you don't.

We all have to start at the beginning and that's with understanding the basics. You need to learn how things work, technically, so you can competently apply a strategy that is effective.

I recommend that you start at the AdWords Learning Center, where you will get a thorough understanding of the basics. It is essential to have this knowledge to insure you are able correctly apply more intermediate and eventually advanced concepts. If you jump right to advanced concepts without a thorough understanding of the basics you are not likely to get it correct.

Once you have the basics down, do not make the mistake of assuming you know all you need to know. It generally takes most people about two years of intense study to realize just how immense the field of marketing is and that you can spend a life time of learning to master.

If you are looking for a challange, you've made a good choice.

It's certainly a lot more competitive and harder to make a profit than the days of 5c clicks at Goto/Overture and the early days of Adwords when you could direct link to almost any merchant and make a profit.

As suggested above start with the basics in the Google Adwords help files and then take a step up in knowledge with http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...-marshall.html

The key is testing and tracking everything. Once you are up to speed on the basics, read the points listed under the heading

      Which Of The Following
      ROI Boosting Activities
Do You Do At Least Weekly
      In Your PPC Account?
      on this page: Rocket Clicks

and that will give you a good idea of what you need to do to be on top of the ppc game.

I feel like google has just completely put the brakes on my campaigns from the day and hour I started. I know there is a historical element but really, how are you meant to break into it.

My CTR's are also below 1% but despite the size of the markets I try and enter they just dont dont seem to want to show my ads even though I have my daily budget set at $5000!

    Sorry for moaning.

I guess my question is, if your adwords account gets off to a bad start is that it doomed to be shunned for ever or can you turn it around so that Google actually starts to look favourably on it!?

      Hi Kahuna,

Yes, you can turn it around. You should pause all your ad groups and focus on a single laser targeted, long-tail, exact match keyword that will match your ad text perfectly. What you are shooting for is a very high CTR. Make sure you choose a keyword that gets plenty of searches because you will need 1000 impressions before you get a new Quality Score rating.

You will probably need to bid very high on the keyword at first to get impressions. Monitor this single exact match keyword ad group very closely, and as soon as you see that you have a great quality score, add a few more single keyword (exact match) ad groups, each with their own ad text written specifically for the keyword.

Continue adding single keyword ad groups, a handfull at a time, while carefully monitoring the Quality Scores. If you are not able to get an improvement on the Quality Score within a couple of days, pause that ad group and move on to a new keyword/ad group.

Once your keywords have earned good/great quality scores, you can begin lowering the bids to levels that will give you the most total profits.

Getting setup is the easy part.

It becomes a bit more difficult finding the right keywords, then optimizing your account for profit only.

Just make sure you structure your account in the correct manner to start with.
    Never build upon shaky foundations.

    Good Luck

The prob with many ppl is that we "over researched" and little implementation. I guess real learning experience will comes when we actually implement some campaigns and improve from there.

Knowing your target market is important and when it comes to PPC management, recognizing the right target market for your business . Getting a positive ROI with pay per click advertising also depends on the keywords you use in your pay per click campaigns
