No backlinks, but lots of PR, worth going after?

I was doing some KW research and came across a key word that the sites on page one of Google had little to no back links to the page, yet the pages had good PR. Anything from PR3 to PR5. Only two of the pages had any links to speak of with the most being about 150.

Would you go after such a key word? It is nearly a $5 phrase according to GKT.

I would be buying a domain for this project if I go ahead with it. I am tempted to go after it because Market Samurai tells me these dozen key words have moderately low competition.

Yea go for it, that sounds like quite a find! Were the pages with high pr targeting that keyword?

I may be mistaken, but the EMD update is not a "penalty"... the exact domain just may not be effective in ranking as it was just a couple months ago. You can still get rankings for that keyword with the assumption that you have good content.

Haven't heard anything about that. I didn't find anything on the web about it either.

Does that have anything to do with my question though? Why didn't you start a thread on that instead of hijacking my thread?

I think I would review the videos on Market Samauri's web site again because they had some pretty specific tips and cautions about keywords having minimal competition, no authority backlinks and high PR. I wish I could remember what they said exactly but they were pretty wary of similar combinations as the ones you list here. I just remember them being very guarded about choosing keywords surrounded by those variables.

How long they have been holding on to that PR ? Many times some of my sites get to PR2 and after the next PR update it went straight to PR0.

Also, did you check if it is a fake PR ?

I am not sure how I would know how long they had that PR, and as far as being fake or not, I don't know how I cold tell if that was the case or not.

  • You don't need a large number of backlinks to have strong PR. A page receiving links from a small number of high PR pages will rank better than one with thousands of rubbish, no-value links pointing at it. In short, quantity of links on its own doesn't really matter, what matters is the quantity of quality links.
