Hello,

Just wanted to ask few questions about people who do SEO for their youtube videos. Is this the same old basic? The more the better? No anchor text diversify needed etc or is it changed a bit?

Thanks

Ranking Youtube video's is not only about back links, some important factors are:

    - comments
    - views
    - thumbs up's

And then back links, lately I even saw someone redirecting an aged PR6 domain to his Youtube video url, so that also still works fine, he was ranking pretty high for a very tough kw.

Btw, its the most crappy video I've ever seen and it has 1000+ comments and 500 likes, so fake it till you make it still works in an excellent way.

    • Totally agree with the above
plus incoming links to youtube counts a lot as well.

  • Like nik0 said, it's not just backlinks as there are other important factors, but strictly regarding backlinks, you need to diversify anchor text as that is the safest way to move forward.
  • Its infrickencredibly easy to rank youtube videos.
  • I've seen a ton of youtube videos rank on many searches so it seems it could be done and isn't that hard.

Im assuming its pretty much piggy backing off the domain authority of youtube, which can give you an extra push.

  • Thanks guys!

However, what is the best place to get comments/likes and views to your video? Should I lurk around the fiverr, use vagex or something else?

    Thanks
  • People use Fiverr and all the rest of it. I think it really depends on how long term you want it to be. I could only imagine it's a matter of time before Youtube cracks down on these fakes methods, and will cast your video into the shadows... but, if you're just looking for a quick buck on some affiliate offer or a JV, I'd use Fiverr.

To get social aspects the real way you could either link to it from another video you currently have that is doing well... or run some ads to your Youtube vid until you get enough views that it starts to rank.

As for what works, I've been looking at a lot of ranking videos, and I don't think exact channel name works as well as it once did. I'd say it's more about channel authority, so if you have some videos that are doing very well, you'll probably rank a new video for another keyword in short time.

If you look at "micro niche finder review" I took a jab at that one with all the fiverr gigs and exact match channel and all the rest of it... it's still sitting on page 5 of "Videos" since last year. You'll notice the first page result has a video uploaded in July, that doesn't have very much social engagement, but has about 29 videos on their channel.

The only real problem with trying to analyze ranked Youtube videos is you can't find out their back linking strategy. Well, atleast I don't know of a resource to do so.

    • Thanks for your indepth reply.. Actually you can check the youtube videos backlinks. You simply have to copy the direct URL and put it to ahrefs.com

  • Optimizing your channel really well also helps with ranking your video. You can also backlink to your channel YT currently seems to love this.

    • Are you wanting to rank your video on google or youtube? Getting a number one slot on google is easy. Youtube is little more difficult. Keyword choice and competition are important factors at first. Then the SEO part is easy after that.
Anyone PM me if you want to know how!
  • Google loves YouTube it is very simple to rank the YouTube video all you need to have is getting more and more views and comments. You can get this by doing some social media marketing and sharing the video with your subscribers, if you have video related to the your own website then you can embed that video on your homepage sidebars and can get some views from there
  • There seems to be some sort of randomness to how Google ranks youtube videos...kinda like how things were with EzineArticles a couple years ago...

Meaning....you can create and optimize the vid, do the backlinking, get comments/likes....and Google still may not rank it in the serps...

Seems like it may be a numbers game...ie if you create 10 optimized videos, don't expect all 10 to rank...if 2 or 3 end up on page 1 of serps just be happy with that. Not really what ppl wanna hear but I think that may be the gist of it.

  • A GOOD VIDEO is going to naturally attract people, friends and such to link to it. In turn increasing serp postion.

With that said. CREATE GOOD VIDEOS and it will happen naturally.

I make about $300/mo via youtube partnership and I think that qualifies me as a semi expert on the matter. You tell me.

    • You hit it on the head.

Good videos AND hot topics of interest gain viewers.

I produced a video this summer on an off-topic subject, the WNBR in my city and got a lot of viewers, averaging about 60 a day now 3 months after the event.
    • That's a strategy for long-term purposes. Google loves quality so if they do any update on youtube rankings, you will at least be on the safe side.

  • YouTube has been changed to consider total minutes watched. That means the videos have to be 'watchable.' Make videos that are three minutes or less that people actually watch to the end. Penguin has nothing to do with it.
