Simple SEO Question- Home Page Article

I am ranking for a particular keyword phrase (4 words) and this 4 word phrase is exactly what I used for the "Domain(emd)", "Title of My Site"(In the header image), and the "Title of the Article on My Home Page" (a static homepage article-not a blog).

So the setup is basically like this(just an example phrase):
__________________________________________________ _________________________________

Blue Sneakers for Dogs

Blue Sneakers for Dogs

I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla
__________________________________________________ _________________________________

This is all fine and dandy(and the real phrase I have doesn't sound spammy like the example), but after placing a poll on my site for a few days, I realized that about half of my traffic is interested in the "Blue Sneakers for Dogs" phrase, while the other half is interested in a subtopic, let's say "Blue Sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs". So now I want to add a featured page excerpt linking to this topic, while leaving the main article below it(so they can choose either). So it will look something like this:
__________________________________________________ _________________________________

Blue Sneakers for Dogs

(feature box- page excerpt)

Blue Sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs

This is about blue sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs bla bla bla.......(Read more)

Now obviously maintaining the main article "Blue Sneakers for Dogs" is good for ranking purposes because it goes with the main keyword they are searching for. How do I ENSURE that the search engines don't read the other article that is displayed as an excerpt "Blue Sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs" as my main article? (this would cause me to lose ranking power because it isn't the exact search phrase)

  • Anyone know what I mean?
  • Your question is bit unusual, I am not sure what you are asking but I am giving reply on what I understand :p

If you are using Wordpress then you can have your targeted keyword article as sticky on the Home page, for tutorial you can visit wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

  • I think you are going the wrong way about this. Heres a question:

1- Why do you want to not index some relevant content to your niche ? It would just add to the fact that your site is an authority in this field.
  • Man whatever you do, dont optimize your page this much. Trust me google will find it and it will be penalized wasting all your efforts on backlinking. Your k/w density looks too high.

Search engine will read all what is there on the homepage. However you can change the setting in wordpress so that instead of displaying all the posts and there excerpts on the homepage wordpress will show only a particular post on the homepage in that case no other article will be there on homepage and you wont be worried about this.

It will look like this :
  • Here is what I'm asking. I want my main article to be viewed by search engines as "the main article for my home page". I don't want them to confuse the article excerpt(of a different article-its going to be an excerpt sitting above the main article on my home page) with the main article- the kw phrase is not the same.

How do I ENSURE that the search engines don't read the other article that is displayed as an excerpt "Blue Sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs" as my main article? (this would cause me to lose ranking power because it isn't the exact search phrase)

When the crawler is going through my homepage's code, in other words, how does it know which article is the "main" one of the site? (when there is an article, and then an article excerpt above it)
