I am ranking for a particular keyword phrase (4 words) and this 4 word phrase is exactly what I used for the "Domain(emd)", "Title of My Site"(In the header image), and the "Title of the Article on My Home Page" (a static homepage article-not a blog). So the setup is basically like this(just an example phrase):

I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla I am going to tell you about bla bla bla bla bla

This is all fine and dandy(and the real phrase I have doesn't sound spammy like the example), but after placing a poll on my site for a few days, I realized that about half of my traffic is interested in the "Blue Sneakers for Dogs" phrase, while the other half is interested in a subtopic, let's say "Blue Sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs". So now I want to add a featured page excerpt linking to this topic, while leaving the main article below it(so they can choose either). So it will look something like this:

Now obviously maintaining the main article "Blue Sneakers for Dogs" is good for ranking purposes because it goes with the main keyword they are searching for. How do I ENSURE that the search engines don't read the other article that is displayed as an excerpt "Blue Sneakers for Vegetarian Dogs" as my main article? (this would cause me to lose ranking power because it isn't the exact search phrase)
So the setup is basically like this(just an example phrase):
