Host Gator hosting question for SEO impact

I'm currently hosting a few sites with host gators Reseller Plan, which is no good for SEO. This hasn't been a concern up until now because i actually want one of my sites to perform well in Google.

They told me they can give me a dedicated IP for $2 a month & i will also need an SSL for that account.

They also suggested i check out their sister site seohosting.com for dedicated c-class IP's.

I've already changed hosting plans twice this year & don't particularly want to unless it's crucial. Can i get away with just purchasing a dedicated IP & an SSL through host gator if i want the site to rank, or should i move the site again?

Thanks guys

Who told you it is no good for SEO?
If you are not interlinking the sites, it's not a problem.

I am on Host Gator, not only do I love it but my sites all rank well and untouched by Google updates. I am not sure what conversation you had with them but it does sound you like went to a sales person and asked them to sell you something, which they did.

Perhaps it's better to use aseohosting services.
It seems to me they will suit all your needs more.

A dedicated IP will work for you but where you are at now should be fine sounds like you may have been up sold?

Awesome - thanks for all the feedback guys. So it looks like i will stay on the host gator reseller plan for now.

So whats the benefit of specific SEO hosting if a cheap, shared IP service like the hostgator reseller plan is fine for SEO in Google?

SEO hosting is a horrible name for what it is. It really should be called something else. On its own, SEO hosting provides no actual SEO benefit. Where it becomes useful is for someone who wants to have a wide range of C-class IP's available for different sites at a cheaper price.

So if you were setting up a network of sites for the purpose of boosting the ranking of one of your sites, you would not want all of these sites hosted on the same IP address. You would want them spread around to different IP's to hide them more and increase the boost the links are providing to your main site.

  • I'm also on hostgator shared hosting and problems I'm experiencing have nothing to do with hosting them on one platform. I do have my related sites hosted on three different hosts and that is a cheaper way to go than so-called SEO hosting.

i dont think this is any issue. many major sites are using shared ip. better than using blacklisted dedicated ip address.
