Hello,
I have a single wordpress site for 2 years. Is functioning with the 3 w's, and I will move it to a wordpress multisite. As you know in wordpress multisites they don't have the 3 w's as default. In alexa I have a good rank and some backlinks to my site. In google web master tools, in configuration > settings > preferred domain the option don't set a preferred domain is checked all this time, and in google is indexing with 3 w's. Should I choose the option display URL's as mysite.com? Am thinking my site to be without the 3 w's anymore in the multisite. If someone who works SEO I would like to his/her opinion about it. Will it affect my rank on this site? If yes what do I have to do If I want it to be without the 3 w's without affecting my rank?

That is called 301 redirect , you have to check with your cached url in google , which domain google crawling like www or none www like.

The 3w's. As for the back links, which code is exactly 301 redirect that I have to put on .htaccess?

If I understood this correctly, I must add in .htaccess the code 301 3w's to non-3w's, every URL that starts with 3w's it will redirect without the 3w's, right?

Well, it is always better to read your site which start from www rather than just http also if it's open with both option then you need to make changes so that it will be redirected properly to fix this problem which will affect your seo efforts.

For 2 years that is up and running, there's been indexing with 3w's. It's open only by that way.

Can someone tell if I have to change "preferred domain" in google web master tools?

It wont affect your SEO to move your www site to root domain.

You can give it a 301 htacces redirect to prevent getting 404 File Not Found error (traffic coming from links, bookmarks and search engines).

Both of them are okay, but you should join them because if you have both ,search engine think that they are same content.

That's only a potential issue if you are going to use subdomains with WordPress multisite network.

    Is that your plan?
