I know the google kinda LOVES all the media content nowadays, including pictures and videos.

But what about practical use and SEO?
Does embedding the image improve your ranking?
Can one manipulate ranking by randomly embedding keywords to some unrelated pics?

Let's say, what if we put a couple of thumbnails on the page, or even utilize someone's avatar to stuff some kws in it. What would be the impact?

  • why not put a proper image related to your content, which will ensure your visitor a nice experience. In the meantime, gain some seo trust with an alt tag in your image code ?

Want even more traffic, name your file the proper way with a relevant filename and it will help with google images.

    • When i'm posting content to my network I try to include:

      relevant image(s)
Various formatting - Bold, Italic, Bullet Points etc
      Sometimes embedded Youtube material

  • It could be a nice test.

Take a domain related to coffee brands and tea brands, and add images of every brand imaginable and make sure it's proper tagged, described and has the main keyword in the image.

It might have some sort of effect.

I did something similar with just videos in the past and my meager fan site ranked above the official site. Was nice for quite some time until I got lazy and decided to kill the site due to working.

    • Thanks for sharing, Sarah, it has to be proving something.

I know, for instance, that it's bad to stuff kws into the image to get it ranked itself for certain keyword. But if we put some keyword in combination, that make it related to the entire page - it might be a great idea.

I can also imagine the potential of abuse of this technique, like sticking some keywords to the elements of design, or even unrelated pictures.
  • Every article should have at least one image otherwise Google does not rank it as well as a page with a keyword optimized image. Too many images and you start ranking in Image Searches which are done mostly by those who want to steal your images.
  • adding relevant images can definitely help with SEO, (indirectly though) if the image can decrease your bounce rate, improve page visits and visit time, then you are improving conversions and this is what the search engines love.

Search engines follow where people go.

    • Adding images doesn't affect your rankings directly, but helps you enhance user experience and draw your readers' attention. People are more receptive to images than text. If your article has an eye catching image, users are more likely to read your post and spend more time on your page. Those who enjoy reading your post will share it and link to it, which will increase your rankings over time.

  • If you are so keen to put images and want better results then why not having images which relates to your content. And then optimize them using Alt tags.Image optimization if done correctly can help one in rankings much better.Put keywords to explain the image. It will work but don't over optimize it.
  • Definitely .But try to add eye catching images so the visitor will spend some time looking at it.
    It will help your ranking.
