Very Basic Amazon Related Questions

Hi,

I'm pretty new to amazon so would like to ask some questions, which may seem very basic to you but I wanna clarify.

Below is the amazon image only code for a random product:

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419686119/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957& creativeASIN=1419686119&linkCode=as2&tag=here-goes-the-tracking-id"><img border="0" src="http://ws.assoc-amazon.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1419686119&Format=_SL110_&ID =AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822& WS=1&tag=tracking-id-here-again" ></a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&l=as2&o=1&a=1419686119" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Now what I wanna know is that if I get this link, but I want to link to amazon using an image that I got from some other source. So if I just link the image to this URL(which is the first part of above link and takes visitor to product details page): "http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419686119/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957& creativeASIN=1419686119&linkCode=as2&tag=here-goes-the-tracking-id" ; will it be fine? What is confusing me is that in amazon image link, we have tracking id two times while this way we have it only once. So, I am just wondering if links created this way will be tracked by amazon? Or they have some specific system for tracking referrals and I must have to use the same code that I got from amazon?

Also, please tell me about the same point regarding text links as well as 'text and image' links.

I would really appreciate anyone taking time and replying to this thread.

  • Yes mate, you can take the URLs and link the images/anchors to them.

You can also use this URL structure for any product:

    hxxp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=TRACKING ID HERE&path=ASIN/ASIN NUMBER HERE

Just put your tracking ID and the ASIN of the product to the related spots and you're done. And don't forget to change hxxp to http

So it ends up like: hxxp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=trackingid-20&path=ASIN/BXCHSHDDS etc.

    • Yeah, the affiliate link is really all that matters in that code. Generally speaking you can use the affiliate link however you want. Be sure to read the TOS though because different sites will have different rules for affiliates.
  • For the above product, simply click on "Link to this page"(top left corner of Amazon), choose text only, which brings up: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419686119/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957& creativeASIN=1419686119&linkCode=as2&tag=1234-20">Learning Chinese The Easy Way: Read & Understand The Symbols of Chinese Culture (English and Mandarin Chinese Edition)</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=ttud-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1419686119" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Copy this bit: hxxp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419686119/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957& creativeASIN=1419686119&linkCode=as2&tag=1234-20 and then add it to whatever image or text you want to link to.

Just make sure that you exclude the quotations. So you could save the image to your computer, add it to your post, and then under "Link URL", copy and paste the above link. It will then become clickable, and will take you to the product page with the tracking id intact.
