My local SEO site dropped into the Mariana Trench

Hi - I hope this is the right forum for rankings and SEO. If not, please let me know...

I have a local SEO site that has been on the first page of Google for a range of 3-8 of my keywords since February. I just got an email from them two weeks ago that I had been approved for Google authorship so I looked up my keyword and saw my picture next to my website on the first page at position #5, so that was an exciting moment.

Then I checked my rankings today and I am nowhere in the top 100 for any of my keywords. I saw I was #5 and #2 for two of my top five keywords on Bing. But Google - nada. I do on-page SEO and a few backlinks (I think 30 for the whole site), so I'm not sure what's going on.

So how do I check why my rankings disappeared from view? Was there a major update in the last 2 weeks that I don't know about? I'm frustrated because of the lack of information on why this happened. I'm definitely NOT an EMD - website name is vividgoals, so I'm pretty sure that's not it.

Thanks in advance
Nancy

maybe someone else linked your site to bad neighbourhood or gave u some unnatural links. Fake traffic also can give this kinda results.

Thanks. I checked my backlinks and it turns out I had more than I originally thought - 188 is all, though. These were varied - some no follow, varied anchor text, nothing that should be flagged. So it's back to the drawing board.

It sounds to me like you might have been hit by the EMD algorithm update. To find out more about this check out our thread at: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ions-here.html

Well thanks for trying to sell me something, I guess...as I said in my original post, though, I don't have an EMD.

A lot has happened in two weeks and every site is on a rollercoaster in the past three weeks. One of my site that has been golden past TEN years got hit and is now at 20% of its original traffic. Second site was an EMD and got hit badly but is recovering slowly back to 50% of its original strength. Some sites are gaining and some are losing so it is all over the map. One day I'm getting 5000 hit the next day 2000 and the following day 3000 and so it goes. Just wait it out another week. If nothing happens add more content and more links and see what happens. Crazy and scary time for those who have a business to run with hundred of employees to take care of and suddenly your incoming emails drop from a few thousand to a few hundreds.

Appreciate the input - I think that's what I'll do. I've been to my Google Webmaster account and, although there are no warnings, I encountered another problem...

I can't seem to verify my site. It was verified practically since I first bought the domain last year, but today after I saw the message about not being verified, I tried verifying it with HTML file upload and also with adding an HTML tag to the site's header and both times it came back with "Verification failed". So now I have to go chasing down that rabbit hole...

If anyone has had this happen before and knows what's going on, please let me know. I did follow Google's directions about searching site:sitename.com, and I am indexed (though apparently not in the top 100) but that's all I know.

      Thanks!
