You think Google is bad.....Facebook is even worse!

If anyone is hoping to rely on Facebook as a free source of bringing new clients in or visitors to your website etc - think again!

Ove the last 6 months ive watched Facebook become worse when it comes to like pages. I have a page with over 2500 likes on it, at first it was easy to get those likes and easy for people to engage with my posts and page.

And since they decided to change it around and figured that could make money from pages it has been terrible. I often post images up and it shows me that only 10 people out of 2500 have seen my post!
Thats ridiculous - followed by not one comment.

Obviously you have the option of paying an extra $6.00 for more people to see your post and I think thats a complete rip off too, as they only end up showing it to an extra 30 people.

Or you have the option to create an add and pay an expensive $2 per click for someone who has no interest in your page to click on your add and like your page.

Its turned into a huge money making scheme - people who have spent long hours building up all those fans only for 10 people to see it.

Has anyone else noticed and suffering from this?
Is anyone actually gaining anything from having a facebook page anymore?

  • I agree. It seems FB are pushing hard to make people pay for exposure now - no free rides...

Their advertising rates have gone through the roof, and trying to make a viral campaign of running a contest on a FB fan page is almost impossible.

For those who tried to make a few buck selling "likes" - those days are also soon over - FB deleted thousands of fake profiles, and some sites losing huge numbers of "fans" - well, that is probably fair enough since it is a way to try to gaming the system.

For many B2B companies, it is hard to see how FB advertising can do anything for your business, except emptying your pockets on over priced CPC campaigns.
  • Yes...

Facebook has gone super downhill and I think a big part of it started with the introduction of the Timeline.

I really hope Google+ takes over as the main social networking site of choice, even if they did slap a lot of my friends and keep making me go bonkers over SEO lol.

Least they're consistent... well in comparison to the Zuckerberg gang.

As I said in that other post, Facebook's main value is either purely building relationships with a personal page (not fan page) or using their PPC program to get people OFF FB and to your capture pages
  • I can relate to that. The only power in facebook advertising is paying for an ad campaign. Trying to go the free route is pretty useless unless you have a large and very interactive following. Again, it all depends on your niche. Whether it's a hobby page or a product page will obviously get different interaction levels.
  • And we are going to see more of it in the coming years.

Few weeks back when i was attending an SEO conference, we discussed about the Edge Rank - algorithm followed by Facebook, according to the speaker current algorithm is designed in such a manner that only 16 percent of your followers see your post (Ideal Case) and for the rest you will have to pay.

In reality the percentage is much less and is equal to 1-5 percent depending on content.

Truly, the whole experience for businesses of going from Free to Premium has been worse.
  • Facebook is only going to get worse, they are a poorly ran public company now

    • Pretty much agree with this statement and everyone else's here.
