Paid Directories...Skip Them?

There are a few that I have had on my radar for a while. They seem legit. Humans seem to be checking sites.

For example, I was going to pull the trigger on this one:

kwikgoblin dot com

Skip it or is it worth it?

And no, I have no affiliation with this website.

Thanks.

If its in your budget, try it out, see conversions and decide where to go next.

Just like everything else in life.

Generally what I do is look at the actual page my listing is going to show up on. If I'm paying $50 for a PR 0 link, no thanks. On the other hand if it is a PR 4 with only a few listings, I'll take it.

I also vet the site. Make sure it wasn't a former porn site that someone turned into a directory or anything like that.

Thanks. My main concern is how Google will react if they see 3 or 4 of these added to my link profile. After all, you are paying for links, which is supposedly a no-no.

By the way Mike, I grew up in Harrisburg. I think we played York Catholic a few times back then.

I went to school at Dover, but had a lot of friends at York Catholic.

Paid directories with pr on the page where you will be listed are a good idea and so long as you don't go crazy with hundreds you should be fine.

There's a distinction we need to remember:

    (A) If you pay money and buy a backlink, that's definitely a no-no unless you add rel=nofollow and clearly indicate that it's a sponsored link.

    (B) However, if you pay to have your site considered for entry in a directory, that's fine.

What's the difference? With (B), you're not guaranteed a link. A human will review your site and could possibly reject it without refunding your money. With (A), the quality and relevance of your site is not an issue, you're just buying a link.

I personally wouldnt unless the keyword was SO competitive!!
If its not so competitive then I would put my money elsewhere

By the way, one of the best things about good paid directories is that most IM'ers are too cheap to use them. Also most good directories will not accept MFA sites.

I believe paid directories is still a nice way to get more links from an authority site. If used modestly...
