Need Help about Google Ranking Factor

Here is my question,

I can see 3 type of websites ranked within top 5 position for a high competitive keyword,

One, ranked high with better link value -means some 700 back-link from better domain authority websites..

Another one, ranked high with totally poor back-link count and that too from poor Domain authority websites with low page rank and some with no page rank

Another Website returning 404 error

If these contrasting websites ranking high in search results for a high competitive keyword, what would be the ranking factors Google using then?

      Yes i agree. It is still early days and things will settle down in the future. I have read a few posts on various other threads where the warriors are saying that their sites are slowly creeping back up the Google ranking.

      Also the age of the domain, that is how long it has been operating as a website. I believe it won't be until 4 years as a website that you'll be seen as fully trustworthy.

    Are you sure its really a HIGHLY competitive keyword?

    Just because it has xxx,xxx,xxx number of listings or searches per month doesn't mean its really that competitive. I have found the OLDER content sites to rank very well for no reason just because Google believes them to be more valuable because of age.

    The only thing that will beat it is a GOOD steady drip feed of links and content done the right way.
