Does This Count As Duplicate Content?

I'm just trying to get to the bottom of why one of my sites was hit, after the last Google update took effect, particularly as after I added all of my content onto new domains, the new site with the "duplicate content" has barely been indexed - 5 out of 100 pages - while my other sites have had no problems being indexed.

On every page, out of about 800 words, I have roughly 100-150 words of the exact same content. The content is stating where and why you should buy the product from this specific retailer, and where you can read more reviews. The only text that changes is the product name within this content.

If its only 100-150 words, can you not re-write each one just to be sure?

    Hi,

I would say it would be classed as duplicate content. If you want the business to e a success it will always be best to completely rewrite the article.

This can be time consuming, however may pay off in the end. Try Fiverr.com, you may get someone to re-write each for a fiver

    • Try to rewrite the paragraphs that appear as duplicate content. If you have lots of posts that need to be rewritten, you can hire someone from odesk, elance, guru, fiverr, textbroker and other similar sites, or you can hire a virtual assistant to help you with this project.

I seriously doubt this is the reason for a reduction in your rankings, Matt Cutts and Google have previously said they are able to recognise these repations in a site's structure. For example, think about Amazon or eBay, they use much of the same language throughout a product's page and don't get penalised. Other sites such as CopyBlogger or Entrepreneurs-Journey have a similar blurb at the end of all their articles promoting a product and don't see any penalty.

I reckon that I'll just delete the repeated content. My CTR was never very high on that site, so I don't think I'll be negatively affected too much. I just want it ranking again. I was making around $600 a month, with only 30 unique visitors a day. So I definitely want to get it ranked again a.s.a.p, and will continue to add content to increase traffic. After I know where I stand, I'll then think about rewriting the content.
