Are sites getting hit with the new algo change a few weeks after?

I just had a tremendous drop in traffic on two of my blogs and was wondering if I just got slapped. This happened 2 days ago. I thought I was safe after everyone went crazy for a week or however long it was.

I changed a template to bluesense on a blogger blog that got a steady flow of traffic, then BOOM, the next day most of my ranking for that site was way down. Almost NO TRAFFIC ! Its sister site also took a hit.

I don't think I could have lost rank that fast from changing a template.

Was it the template change or was it just timing?

    Have a look at Mozcast and see if your serp movement aligns with their measurement of serp turbulence: MozCast - The Google Algorithm Weather Report

    I've seen some movement in a couple of my sites at about the same time as you are talking about - mostly upward for me.

      I've seen some movement in a couple of my sites at about the same time as you are talking about - mostly upward for me.
      It was on Oct 6 and 7th that I got hit. The weather looks ok on those days.

      Thanks for the tip but I never use googles analytics. I always felt uncomfortable with them being that close to my sites even though they counted adsense hits. LOL Im a weirdo.

        My question simplified is : Are people still getting slapped by the new emd algorithm change weeks after it was implemented?

        I thought everyone one who would see negative effects would see it all at the same time.

    Not sure maybe due to updates, but sumtimes it happens when u change a template too. Try undo and changes and ping it again.

    I had this once, my rankings dropped when I added few articles from the EZ, but when I deleted them my rankings were back. Just try undo and see what happens.

    Just changed the template again will see what happens. Its on blogger so if this template does not do it I will go back to the original.

    I will update here when I see changes.

    While it can also be due to theme change, the updates do not happen in one day; their index is gigantic and processing all sites can take weeks, so I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that you were hit by the algorithm updates.

    i guess its still fluctuating, just waiting and watching to take the next step. 2 out of 10 of my main business site got effected with this. all my domains are emd.

      yes, you will experience the google dance as they say.

      But our traffic does not just rely on google, you must be doing things that you are just relying on google.

      Everyone is getting sick of google, and me too.

      We are listbuilding doing daily press releases, and media buys, and our traffic is going up dramatically.

      Nowaday, I cannot stand all the google updates and choose to give google the finger and not worry about SEO much. There are other ways around the whole algo changes, but many people panic when their high ranking sites get killed, they just do not know what to do.

      Always need a backup plan i think, then a backup or that back up plan.

    Update:

    I changed the template back to the old one but it is not an exact backup. I completely forgot to make a backup and now I am paying the price.

    My serps improved a very little and traffic increased slightly but it is still not near where it used to be.

    I will keep watching it.

    Lesson learned. No tweaking after google updates!
