Are You Still Doing These COMMON BACKLINKING MISTAKES?

Here is something that would be helpful for newbies. Backlinking is a big pain in the a** and don't lose your time and efforts doing these mistakes that could be easily avoided.

Anchor text without proper keywords

There is no use if you get a quality backlink and links it with a useless anchor test such as "click here". You need to build keyword rich backlinks if you want to see good results. Whenever you are getting a backlinks from a site such as PR4 or above, try to use your keyword or related keyword as anchor text.

Update: But if I find a high PR or high quality site to get a backlink from, most of the time I try to use my main or related anchor text... nd on others I use it to vary my anchor text.

After Penguin, I keep my main anchor text below 30%. Then use other related keywords for 50% of the links.. other 20% are un-anchored and other misc keywords.

Low - Quality Backlinks

Never get backlinks from a site that loos spammy or have a bad reputation. Look it this way, if you're hanging out in a bad neighbourhood, search engines begin to see you in the same light. So make sure you are getting backlinks fron good quality sites only.

Quantity over Quality

One quality backlink is always better than 100 low quality backlinks. Quantity matters but what you need to know that backlinking isn't just a numbers game. Don't waste your efforts getting thousands of low quality backlinks. Instead focus on getting backlinks from high quality relevant trusted sites.

Ignoring low PR sites

Many guys just focus on getting backlinks just from high PR sites. This could have a negative effect on your PR. The thing is PR is not everything, if a site has a low PR is necessarily doesn't mean that it's of low quality. A good site having a PR0 could have a PR5 in next few months.

Not linking out

If someone says that linking out results in losing your link juice, that BS, don't believe it. Linking out can attract linksi n return ad also help your to build a good network with fellow bloggers. If you want to recieve you need to give out first.

Hope this helps a few fellas here. Please let us know if you have something to add that would be helpful to all of us.

Thanks

Good post, though I'll disagree slightly with #1. Diversity is pretty important, so a small % of generic anchor text is a good thing.

While this maybe true for higher PR backlinks. You need to diversify your anchor text portfolio for lower quality backlinks.

This isnt true, especially since Penguin.

Its even moreso important now, for those that are doing manual backlinking to create "natural" looking link profiles.

    This means using ...

    1. Your brand.
    2. Naked URLS
    3. Non related terms "click here", "visit this website"
    4. LSI terms
    5. Image links (no anchor text at all)

Your anchor text should make up between 1-3% of your overall link profile for your desired keyword. James Schramko covers this extensively, and his findings, match with what I've tested too.

Anyone pushing the same anchor text over and over, can kiss their rankings goodbye.

I second what John Romaine said.
In my case, I got hit by penguin because anchor keywords over use

I would add -Using long keywords anchor text to make links, IN CASE you still didnt use it.
example - "website who teaches marketing on the WEB"

The other topics, you were right Gaurabbora

#1 is wrong, the others are pretty okay advice.

Think about this all high PR backlinks have keyword anchor texts, and only low PR backlinks have "generic" anchors. Don't you think this is an obvious footprint?

I will "waste" a good backlink on a good site with generic anchor text every once in a while. Exact keyword anchors should be used very sparingly, partial exact anchors should be used quite often as well as adding additional words.

i.e. like have you anchor be "Great tips on KEYWORD"

I think this post will benefit a lot of seo beginners and even some expert as most people still build low quality backlinks and don't put proper keywords in their anchor texts.

  • I would like add one more thing, that when you are going to make backlink for your site then also check that you are getting links from high authority sites or not... Low authority sites do not pass search engine ranking value.

PR, # of other outbound links on the page, manually created vs created by the site owner, etc.

Some Warriors such as dburk reckon anchor text ratio causing penguinization is a myth. It seems like it's a factor for sure, although there are probably other variables which decide it's ranking affects such as on page factors.

Having both Dofollow blogs and Nofollow blogs can bring more originality in your optimization and the organic search results.Ignoring low quality links everytime can also be a problem and having too many quality links too.
