Google Content Network Image Ad vs text Ad

I have created my first placement campaign on Google's content network.
I am targeting specific links.

I have few questions which not sure what path to take:
1-Can I add specific web pages that ends www.xyz.com/html/golf/ or I have to specify extension at the end?

www.xyz.com/html/golf/index.php ?

Same way- forum.golfclub.com/showthread.php?t=8882 is this extension acceptable?

I read somewhere I can only add .php .html .htm extensions

Adwords did not prompt me that I can not use those links which ends / or t=8882.

2-I have added two ad text variations for my list of links to my Ad Group.
In order to add image ads what do I have to do?

Copy the same ad group and create image ad variations?

Or
Add 2 more image ads on top of 2 text ad?
Any advise is appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

  • 1. You can use any URL you like as the destination page, extensions and so on do not matter.
    2. Create a separate ad group for banner ads, that way its easier to track and measure. You should not have more than 2 versions at the same time for split testing.

Extra tip: create a banner for every size Google accepts, that way you can capture all of the cheap banner traffic. There is surprisingly low competition for several ad formats.

    • I can attest that this is excellent information.

I mainly use content network for my ppc campaigns because I find that the competition is lower and the clicks are cheaper.

The extra tip is golden information. I use this exact same strategy!

Another extra tip: ugly banner ads perform better than pretty ones. You can also get killer CTR's on the content network using banner ads that look like text ads with some sort of call to action.
  • $150 should not seem expensive at all if you think of it as investing in your business.
