EMU's, authority, new love?

I used the acronym the other day here, EMU.
Exact match url. Can't say anyone else has used
that before.

It seems that some of my squidoo lenses that I have
ignored, are skyrocketing at the moment. They have
exact match urls. That is squidoo.com/keyword-phrase-exactly-written

Is this new EMD algo giving new love to EMU's? Especially when
considering the authority of the "parent" site? Like squidoo?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Or, could it be a blip in the algorithm, discounting some EMD's and
accidentally raising some EMU's by default?

The WF has always had EMU's do quite well.

Since my domain names are brands and not EMD, my page names tend to follow the EMU strategy (your acronym, just thought I would keep this on the same page of terms). Nothing was hit by the updates and pleased to report only increases. I would be impossible for me to state if these changes where across the board, just to much content and many keywords to check but the current ones I do observe all did well.

EMU has always done well in my opinion though and when all this took place I don't think I seen anything that stuck out to say, this is new gold. At first glance glance I would say Google just removed the fool's gold.

Still, it is an interesting theory. I could easily see Google offering a boost to those who embrace the habits that establish larger sites full of content as they crush the smaller ones.

I think EMU has been working for some time.

I have used it for my own rankings a long time.

EMU's from huge authority sites (squidoo, etc) have definitely gotten some love in the last update, from what I've seen. Either they got love, or everyone elses sites got hit so bad it makes it appear as if they got love.

There also seems to be more inner pages ranking so you could be on to something there.

Quite the contrary. The only logical reason I can think of why your EMU shot to the top is b/c the competition was poor. Here's what I wrote on one other post regarding Exact Match Domains:

Not sure if you saw it but Matt Cutts Tweeted Google is making a small algo change that will hammer LOW quality exact match domains.

EMD will rank well (I would only assume) if they are:
    • Authority type sites.
    • Sites with regularly updated content.
    • Sites with a lot of user engagement
    • Sites with quality, well written content
    • Sites with a solid content base
    • Sites with AGE
    • Sites with Google Authorship in place
    • Sites with Social Credibility
It's no secrect what Google wants. These take time to manifest.

I got this info from guys who invest in a multi-million dollar Internet Marketing membership site.

    Hope that helps,
    Charlie

It's most likely a combination of the EMU (with authoritative parent domain), coupled with crappy competition sinking after the update. I've generally seen good results with EMU on authoritative parent domains that can usually outrank EMDs in little time with no backlinks at all.

I've spent the last 59 months building 412 MFA sites. Each site averages 8 cents per day...I said average, some make up to 17 cents per day, PASSIVE INCOME! This income allows me to live comfortably and buy ANY flavor Jolly Rancher or Skittles I desire. Don't give in to fear, it CAN be done!

That probably explains an old friend's success with blogspot. He never practiced or understood SEO or IM and never had a single domain except his name. He created 30+ blogspot domains (I assume an exact match subdomain is an emu?) He did well with that strategy. I went the SEO route after craigslist changed so much in 2011. I didn't do as well with the constant Google tweaks.

    Hi Paul,

You are not the only one to notice this trend, I have noticed it too.

The other day I was doing some niche research and I saw EMU's from authority web 2.0 sites were dominating the SERP's for many keywords in my niche which was previously dominated by EMD's. I am not sure as to why this is but it certainly is an interesting trend if google is showing some love to exact match url's.

EMD = MakeMoneyOnline.com - Exact match of your keywords in your domain

EMU = Squidoo.com/make-money-online/ - Exact match of your keywords in your url

The main domain of your EMU's can be one of the reason you post is ranking But, when your article is not quality I am sure one day your rankings will drop. So, do some tweaks if you are not sure of your content
