There are many other ways to promote your website in addition to blog commenting and forum posting. You can set up a Facebook fan page and share content, write guest posts on other sites, and distribute press releases. Other strategies include social bookmarking, social media promotion, and article marketing.

Forum profile / sig links are spammy and not needed.

Forum promoting does get some amount of traffic. Some people use forum sigs to get people to try/buy their product. "Promoting" a website is sort of a weird term. Forums is a good start, next you can try using paid ads. Maybe some on page SEO. Take a look a 7 search if you have heard about that.

- Get a good mix of paid and organic (SEO) search traffic to your website
- Create a Social media presence
- Create great content and (get) people linking to it (Blog-video-great product, etc.)
- Send an email newsletter to people who subscribed

I have a piece of advise for you, before doing any optimisation, link building or hiring someone, you must know how to determine your keywords to promote. You need to know KEYWORD RESEARCH first because that's the first important thing when promoting your site.
