How would you market a photoshop product?

Hey guys,

So I am curious other then getting good SEO rankings for keywords (which I am already working on) what are some other ways to generate actual SALES of my photoshop training dvd?

I have sold about 25 of them so-far and am curious what you think I should do.

Would adwords/ppc be a good option?

Has anyone else sold a product this way successfully? Obviously I have a budget of around $100/start but every sale can go back into advertising more and more until the offset is greater.

Just curious what you all think?

Defiantly BuySellAds, it's mostly web designer traffic (Photoshop users).

They sell both ad placement over a period of time and impressions, it is not determined by BSA but rather by the website owner.

Still, it's a laser targeted list of sites with Photoshop traffic that are looking to sell banner space.

You could search BSAs for the sites that get low/no bids, then contact those sites directly & make an offer for buying monthly banner space. I would start out a little lower than the BSA cost, since the webmaster will get 100% of the payment. All they can do is say no thanks, move on to the next guy...

The way I figure, anyone advertising on BSA & doesn't get any advertisers would be happy to make a deal with anyone looking to buy banner space outside of BSAs. Some money is better than no money when your selling banner space.

It's a lot easier to skip the middle man (PPC), & do business directly with a webmaster (way fewer rules).

You can also offer free PSD files if you are good with Photoshop; they draw a lot of attention from what I see. Some nice graphs can get a lot of traffic to the site; since all visitors will be Photoshop users, I'd say that would be semi-targeted traffic.

Yeah I used to do that, I have an email list of over 1,000 people because of it. They have already been emailed my offering.

Need more direct traffic tho, thats hit n miss and people looking for free stuff. My dvd is not free.

    Hey Shannon,

I'm sure you can get a successful campaign going in Adwords, it all boils down to thorough keyword research and proper campaign structure, so that you get high Quality Scores. You will probably need more than $100 to buy enough data to figure out which keywords are profitable, and which aren't.

    Best of luck!

Hmm idk. See CPC is direct traffic if my keyword research was done right as in someone searching google for "photoshop training dvds" granted my CPC cost will be higher. But its directly what they are looking for.

Where as banner ads can send lots of Photoshop related traffic but that doesnt mean they want to buy a dvd, they could be veterans that dont need to learn or even people that just after free stuff which most of those BSA sites are free tut sites.

Could always build your own photoshop site, I would say it is easy but I know first hand having one it isn't as easy as one might think. I guess it would depend on what you where trying to do with it though.

That's probably what I would do, I would have at least one free .psd site. I know people on this forum tend to think people looking for free things aren't buyers, that's not always true.

If the traffic paid for Photoshop software, they'll buy anything else related to Photoshop If it's interesting (ex: Photoshop training DVD).

Yep, I actually use photoshop so I take texture pictures all the time. I figured why not just go 1 step further and create a website for it. Lets be honest.. 100's of image files driving traffic is never a bad thing.. *laughs*

If you already have a psd site you should hook up with OP & test your traffic with selling his DVD, maybe setup as an affiliate?

I have my own site mate. And a youtube channel kicking butt 7,000+ subs and making about $200/mo via adsense.

I tried something similar to that once when the site started to get some solid traffic and played the fool for about a month. To be honest I don't even have Adsense on my sites any longer.

I should/need to add this, this is nothing against or to do with the OP.. it is just a matter of my sanity.

Well what about an opt-in list?

As I said I have about 1,000 people on mine and if your really getting that much traffic you should be able to setup an opt-in list with mailChimp easy and start converting some of that traffic into customers.
