The Google Dance or being punished?

Hey Guys,
I had a local site ranked in the top 10 for several local keywords. Life was good. Then all of a sudden on 10/9/12 it happened. It was like the traffic faucet was turned off at Google.
A keyword that used to rank #11 is nowhere to be found.
A keyword that used to rank in the top 10 is now #29
The one keyword that dropped, that's fine, but my concern is for the main keyword. It's no longer anywhere to be found in Google, I ran Rank Checker to try and find it.
Is this a dance, or is the site being punished?
How do I know the difference between a dance and being punished?
What should I be doing in the mean time?
