Google released earnings early and they were bad. Advertising rates dropped a bunch. Stock down 10%.

Google's stock experiencing the Google dance?

Not sure this will change things with adsense, adwords, etc.

Odds are this will cause them to tighten down on Adsense, the more value they can provide to the ads the more money they will be worth.

Yeah, and a lot of people seem to be happy about this. If anything, I think it's going to make them even more aggressive and more of a pain to work with.

      Nobody is 'working with' Google.

Because they are silly and can't see past their nose. Google has not lost much market share. its still the favorite search engine by far. Its only seen its profit reduced. What will any corporation do when it begins to lose profits? Find away to make more. How do you do that if you are Google?

Change around things so that people click on the ads more often. It says nothing good for organic rankings.

Honestly, I think the decision to base Adsense ads more around search history rather than context was a huge mistake. The only Adsense ads I ever see now are the same ones over and over again depending on what's in my browser history.

Did they ever think...if I didn't click on it the first 50 times I saw it, maybe I'm not going to...huh???

This is when you want to buy (buy low, sell high), when people start freaking out on a stock that has a history of good returns.

funny thing is all of this is just a fall in profit not even close to a loss. The way I am reading it People are jumping up and down because Google only made a profit of 2 Billion dollars this quarter

I believe people who think Google doesn't have an incredible market research team is delusional. We're all managing grains of sand compared to them. Google is only going to make moves that have an extremely high probability of raising revenues and profits.

Google has attributed higher quality to profits. Whether that's truly the case is anyone's guess because it's almost impossible to measure, but the psychology behind it makes perfect sense and they have made it clear that this is their business hypothesis/strategy. If you're operating a company under the assumption that quality = profits, then getting rid of spammed keywords and ridiculous EMD's are no-brainers.

But Google has to consider more than just the effect on search engine users and webmasters. They also have to consider how they can create an algorithm that will destroy bad quality while maintaining good. Kind of like weed killer that does minimal damage to the plants you want. Again here, detecting and getting rid of spammy links and ridiculous EMD's is relatively easy in comparison to other linkbuilding tactics use.

In the end if you want to rely on Google, you shouldn't question Google's motives or strategy. You should embrace it and make strategies around it rather than against it. You aren't going to change it yourself especially by complaining on a forum. Only they can change it, and when they change it, they'll tell everyone because they have a legion of webmasters who will do what they say to build their brand for them.

Always keep these 2 questions in mind:
    - Is what I'm doing quality work?
    - Am I going against Google's system?

If you're doing quality work and you're working in line with Googl'e strategy, then you have the best chance of developing a symbiotic relation with them. There are other factors that will determine success like how much IM experience you have or the subjectivity of what quality content truly is, but with these simple guidelines, you aren't taking any unnecessary risks when trying to use Google as a tool for income.

If you say no to either of those, you're accepting risks, and one day, you might have to reckon them with Google. Don't blame Google for this, they have been relatively transparent, you are the one not playing by their rules.

Keep on telling yourself that. If you PAY GOOGLE you're in line with their strategy.

I forgot to mention the whole point... 1 quarter does not prove or disprove a massive marketing strategy at the scale of Google.

Nice to see this evil company get what it deserves. It steals content from others, pays little tax, and destroys little companies (like mine) day after day. What has it contributed to society?

Cramer was just on CNBC telling viewers that CPC's took a dump in the last 6 weeks. Was this a Panda too far?

And every Android handset they release means even less revenue from PPC. They are cutting off their own hands!

FB's figures next week will be interesting!

      Or....

This is from Google letting to many subpar websites run wild with Adsense and the SERP is still flooded with crap websites.

You can spin this thing in so many ways, truth be told it is a normal large company in the midst of a global recession. There will be ups and downs.

They paid 22% tax on profits their earnings stated, how is that little? People are freaking out over nothing here.

They still made a huge profit, it just wasn't as high as people were expecting. It happens, companies don't have killer quarters every time. There are 327 million shares of Google and they made a profit of over $9 a share for the quarter. How exactly is that bad?

I'm with you on this. Google simply do not care about other businesses. Whatever makes them money is what motivates them to do evil.

They have forgotten where they came from so that small webmasters are left with the spit-out scraps from their table. Soon, we will have to eat their vomit, urine and faeces as well.

When people's adsense accounts get busted for not adhering to Google's rules, they become very bitter and start asking others to boycott Google....really? I know internet is littered with tons of ways to monetise one's site depending on your content. In my opinion, adsense is one of the best ways to monetise one's site. I recently met a guy at the golf course who showed me his google adsense account, sites and what he does online. Boy! didn't my glasses steam up like I just jumped out of a hot bathroom....He makes solid 5 figures monthly from adsense alone. Now here's my question, if you were making that kind of money, will you be calling Google terrible names???

Time to look for alternatives I say. Adsense is still a stable foundation though.
