Penalized sites hard to recover?

It's kind of strange but no matter how many links (high PR, low PR) I build, some of my sites remain in 500+ places.

Is it possible that some sites are seen as "No more ranking, but I'll still index you" status?

Or could it be negative SEO, where some links I got in the past still pulls down my sites?

I'm facing the same problem here too. My site is currently stuck around page 32-ish.

Do you know what was it that you got penalized for?

I took time to slowly build quality backlinks so that it looks natural but my rankings are still out of the top 10.

I may want to try building new links to a new domain or page to see if that ranks.

But it would be good to hear from others too.

I guess I know my problem now

      Google revoked the Manual penalization
However, according to WMT, my site is still found by anchor keywords on most of the times ( I know which sites are , because WMT shows )
And the number seens to not stop - Or I buid pelnty of good links using raw URL
OR I will have to use the disavow tool

I dont know why they revoked the pensalization, since I couldnt remove all the unnatural links. Tough I tried.

Cross check the below mentioned factors to know the actual issue:

    1) Build up only quality back links for the website.
    2) Work on onsite changes and add quality content to the website.
    3) Collect quality submission list for performing offsite activities.

I tried so bad to recover one site in acne niche it was hit by panda April this year site was ranked #1 and drop the ranking all the way to page 10 I tried every possible methods from getting links from articles, web 2.0, high PR blog network , social bookmarks, press release, tweeter, Google +1, high PR blog commenting and so on I could get site to page 5 not any closer to page 1 I could not pass page 5 so I give up on the site and I notice sites that got hit by any Google penalty the ranking process goes extremely slow..my recommendation if you are trying to recover by panda hit domain just move on to another and build content and links....

IMO, penalized site is penalized site. You bear the indelible mark. What you probably need is to work on your content first and then submit a reconsideration.

Google Penalizes sites where there is spam or duplicate contents. So its better not try to recover the site. You can build your site with unique content, you can change your URL name then upload the site on the server again and do some SEO.

    Hi Joseph Then!

I don't know what is your specific problem because I am not able to get further details from you site. Just check out the guidelines of Panda and Penguin and you might see the problems that you are in.

It is possible that you have over optimized your keywords. In this case, you have to maintain a balanced link diversity and start using naked links to bring the balance back.

Some sites are manually reviewed and penalized. Check your Webmaster Central for any messages.

Yes for promoting number of back-links really not matter, one must follow webmaster guidelines and yes penalized sites are hard to recover.

I had a site hit after Penguin and was not in the top 1000 for my main 2 keywords now i have one back at position 11 and the other at position 30 and with a bit more effort and tweaking should be back on the front page soon. I did extensive Panda Recovery onpage and only got links from relevant sites which i will build up over the next few weeks and hopefully get back on page one. This was a massively competitive niche in the UK so if you have been hit then i would recommend you review both onpage and off page factors as it has worked so far for me.

If your site is not that popular (still in 500+ positions) then it will be better to build a new site on new domain rather than spending time for recovering from any penalty.

If that is true, I d better expect visits from Bing and yahoo and forget about Google

OK, I plugged my website in GWT and I realized that my dropped in traffic (ie. rankings) happens during 26-27 of September.

What happen during this Google dance? EMD problems? Mine isn't an EMD domain name.

If your website was affected by any update then it will be quite difficult to recover it. Try to find the actual issue so that you can create a strategy accordingly.

Is your domain less than a year old?

If so, it could just be the Google sandbox.
