Hey guys,

Just wondering if you can help by answering something for me.

Do you know what the pros and cons are for redirecting the home page to a sub folder. So for example:

I have a website called "ThisWebsite.com" and ALL it sells is Blue Widgets. What are the pros and cons of redirecting the home page ThisWebsite.com to ThisWebsite.com/BlueWidgets/ ?

Thanks guys, much appreciated as always.

PS. Not sure if I've used the correct terminology but hopefully you get what I'm trying to ask.

  • TuNguyen,

I suppose the pro would be that you can accomplish whatever goal you are trying to accomplish by redirecting this domain to a subfolder. I suppose I would have to know why you are planning on redirecting your home page to another page on the same domain to determine if it were a bad idea as well as some more info about your home page. At first glance I don’t really see an issue with this other than no one will see content on your home page even if they try to visit it from some other internal link on your site.

Here is some more info on the benefits of different redirects,

    Hope that helps,

    hi,

I would suggest that do not redirect your home page to any inner sub domain. It will hurt you and your all back links will be removed.

It would be better to start with a new domain.
