WANTED Adwords Advice

Hey,

I've been thinking this over and want your opinion.

Let's say you are running an ad for a sprcific
product model number.

Your ad gets clicked and the prospect is taken
directly to the exact product model page that he
was searching for.

He gives it the quick once over and leaves.

Here is where I think there is a problem.
Google loves that my ad is relevent, but
they hate high bounce rates.

So I'm thinking unless you can make a page real
sticky your Q score will suffer even thought you did
exactly what G wanted!

So the next problem is how to make the page
sticky for a real boring product?

  • As far as I know, bounce rate is *not* a heavily weighted factor in Q Score. The biggies are relevance of keyword-ad-page, and clickthrough rate. Bounce rate is pretty low on the totem pole.

    What I'd recommend is remarketing to recapture those people, you could perhaps advertise a coupon code for a discount if they come back to buy.

      I don't know what to believe any more, I hope you're right.

      I have a huge bounce rate because all of my competiors
      come to my site to check stock and prices, then of course
      they leave.

      Regarding remarketing, it's in the plans.

  • I agree. Your QS is based on these main factors: Keywords, ad quality (Keywords included in ad), page copy, relevance to keywords, and CTR. Your CTR is one of the large pieces of that equation. In 9 years of doing adwords I've never seen where bounce rate is even a factor because unless you are running analytics they would have to do something verging on spyware to track it.

    So, just focus on the factors above for QS. Here is the other piece though, in regards to your product page is the offer clearly stated? What does the ad look like? What are the keywords, etc? PM me your page and I'll take a look to see what could be improved. Most of the time a simple tweak here or there can explode your conversions.

    • Keywords - I only use part numbers as keywords.
      Ad quality - Keywords are inserted dynamicaly, I only have 2 KWs per ad group. It's the same KW, one is phrase, one is exact match.
      Page copy - that's a tough one, I'll PM you, however they land on the exact product page with description and image(s) and specs.
      CTR - since 2008 it has dropoped off dramaticaly, lots of competiton moved in. They all copied my ads, so now I'm constantly trying something new. I also have what I think maybe a problem that affects CTR.
      I sell legacey products, I have a warehouse full of them. I list
      all of my part numbers all of the time. I have KWs that have never
      had a click through, but someday if someone needs that old part
      it will be a beautiful thing.

      Your keyword CTR makes up about 65% of your Quality Score. Bounce rates are not part of the QS equation.

      As far as keeping people on your page longer, you might add more content and use a good copywriter to make your sales copy sizzle with excitement. I would worry less about bounce rates and more about conversion rates. The objective is to get users to purchase not just hang out on the website. Stickiness is something that content sites, selling ad space, go for, not for ecommerce sites.

      It seems that you are in need of ad text writers and sales copy writers. Or, become a master of those skills yourself and dedicate significant hours towards those tasks. That is where you need to focus.

      Some other areas to focus on might be to increase clarity of your value proposition, and improvements in your layout style.

    As mentioned by other members, the fact that people are bouncing is probably not effecting your Adwords account that much if at all. Your landing page problem however is still a big deal. Getting a high CTR and QS in Awords is all fine and dandy however if you aren’t accomplishing your goals for using the service in the first place, you are wasting time and money.

    Your landing page needs to be clear and concise. The action you want users to perform when they arrive should be the most obvious thing on the page and it should also be easy to perform. Any keywords used in the ad should be prominent on the landing page. Your value proposition that was in the ad should also be front and center. If users have to scroll or search for what it is that the ad promised them, they will leave. Focus less on what your metrics are for your account and more on getting users to convert once they arrive.

    Yes you can use direct linking. But there are way better and profitable options available.

    You can promoter clickbank and everything else.

    Even casino , pharma etc.
