Am I in Biiiiig Trouble... with Google?

I have a site that I left alone for a few months.

Came back and there is over 20 THOUSAND full page PLAGIARIZED articles from sites all OVER the net!

I checked to see if my site was banned and it still shows up in google.

Is it safe to just delete all the spam and start over with fresh content on the SAME domain?

I spent a lot of money on the domain but I dont want to invest more into content if google is just going to see my site as a spam site and not rank me anyway.

Thoughts?

Are you saying that your site got hacked and someone injected artciles into it?

If so then just remove them all and ensure they are replaced with 404 errors and Google will take care of the rest.

However you might also want to consider how you were hacked and ensure there is no left over code injected in any files, most commonly index.php and wp-config.php will feature some gibberish towards the top or very end (scroll down lots) of the file.

Install Wordpress Firewall 2 as well

I doubt very much If that's the case. When someone hacks a site it's usually to add links, not content or obvious new pages that would stick out.

If the copied content is on OPs site, he most likely did it or paid someone else to add the copied content.

Wordpress is a very versatile script and can be used for more than just blogs.

Without describing my niche, Ill just say, it was possible without my involvement.

But in the future I would appreciate it if you wouldn't call me a liar and accuse me of this criminal act. Clearly you dont have all the facts therefore cant assert any.

        thank you

Put up a dev|under refresh page, restore the site *now* from a back up when the spam|comments were not there, re-ping|rss it again and you should be fine, make sure you add some proper WP security and do not use the standard DB WP_ name when adding a new database with the old content to it!

I would suggest to you that you should not look towards content scrapers or stealers. If your website is getting indexed first then Google can see that who is using and placing unique content !

Matt Cutts says in one of his webmaster videos that penalties are on a time basis. Meaning that even if your site got penalized, if you clean it up, the penalty should be lifted after a certain amount of time.

In support of Yukon (who is always direct but always helpful in my mind) ..... OP you do mention in your intro that

......but I dont want to invest more into content ........

leading us to conclude of course that at least some of the content on your site was bought!

But it seems that you got a lot more than what you asked/paid for !

If you are not penalized yet, just go ahead with the broom and start the cleansing ..... but be mindful where you buy content and please (like those of us who do use bought / guest content) vet it before you publish it. Especially when you have a valuable domain as you put it.

Keep in mind what I just heard in a TT webinar - Hilary Clinton quote - "if you don't do drugs you won't need rehab" - no pun intended but the volume of ill content you see must come from somewhere. Check the source if you can and shut it down.

    Good luck with the cleansing.

Well, let's take a little gander at this thread.

How do 20,000 articles on your site get put across the web?
And you use the word plagiarize, no less...that's not criminal
activity....people think the web is a police state, I guess, or
don't know what constitutes criminal activity. BTW, plagarism
by itself, is not a crime, nor against the law. Copyright
violation, maybe....and certainly not in China, India, Pakistan,
Iran, North Korea,....US laws don't go across all country
      borders....

Sorting this out, zero in on the sig:

""Super Cheap Articles! This Is HOT!!"

And now we know the rest of the story.
