Companyname or Productname as primary domain?

I own both the productname.com and the companyname.com domains for my company/product. Which one should I submit to google?
My companyname.com is already on google, so when I tried to add productname.com it didn't work since it's the same website as companyname.com.

For SEO purposes, which would be better to have in the long run?
Say that my product goes viral, would it be better with productname.com?

I also run a blog on my website, so for that reason, maybe companyname.com would be better?

    I'll buy the idea of companyname.com.

    If you were to choose productname.com, you can only highlight the product itself.
    If you were to choose companyname.com, you can introduce and promote multiple products, as many as you want.

    Your goal should be to have a catchy, brandable domain name. Being short and easy to remember would be a plus.

    The domain name doesn't have much of an impact on SEO like it use to, especially after Google's latest EMD update.

    Agreed with contentwriting360 the company name is better. I have supported strategy with companies that have multiple products. We did both. We had the "holding" company that owned the product but we also created a domain name around the product with a completely different site.

    If you have multiple products or will possibly offer multiple products I would have a separate site for your product name. It will be on your company site but will also have its own domain. You can pass authority from the company site to the new product domain site as well.

    Simple.

    Given that companyname domain is already indexed by Google, leave it as is, and just redirect the productname domain to companyname.

    There's loads of big websites that use a similar approach.

  • A lot of companies sank in 1980s because they had narrowly defined their primary business and became a prisoner of their self-limiting definitions. Think bigger and go for creating a brand identity for your company, a great many products can follow later. If you focus all your energies on creating a brand identity for your product you may nothing in hand if product reaches end of its cycle.

      Why not have both, or a bunch of them? Every big company, from Ford
      to Toyota, from Ebay to Amazon, all have multiple domains.

      Makes no difference for "SEO" purposes.

    I'll leave it with the companyname.com as the primary domain, and just forward the productname.com to that site.

    intergen: you said that it's possible to pass authority from my primary domain to productname.com, any tips on how to do that?

    I doubt your company will be a one product wonder so companyname.com but you can showcase the product on productname.com just like Ben from Affiliate Wizard has.
