The content in our password protected website changes depending user log-in (each user has unique username and password). Question: what log-in details does Google Adsense require to successfully serve tailored ads and how does this work? Thanks

Of course you can. Thing is, password protected content
will not get crawled and indexed, leading to probably
      less than perfect ads.

You must provide google a way in if you are applying to adsense
      with those pages.

To get better ads, allow google to crawl it all the time.

You can grant access to google on your login pages:
Display ads on login-protected pages - AdSense Help

If you mean the content changes, depending on who logs in, then revert
to the first line above. But everybody should see the same "normal" content,
      right?
