I will not post whole article but some sentences from it. Read whole article here

"You could have a Penguin problem if...

Anchor text for links pointing to your site are mostly perfect keywords. A "natural" link profile should have a lot of links with anchor text such as your business name, your website address and "click here." An unnatural link profile would be mostly inbound links with anchor text such as "adirondack chairs" - and linking on these keyword terms looks odd or inappropriate."
So we now can't use keywords in anchor text?

Don't get stuck in an SEO time warp. It's easy to stick to the gray or black hat things that worked for you before, like buying links, keyword stuffing, sending link exchange requests, or submitting articles to directories. All of these are outdated now, and Google will continue to try to shut down these artificial methods for trying to look authoritative.
So all of the seo tools that are for sale here on warrior is out of use?

So what techniques should we use now?

    Hi Klauzer,

Yes, you can use keywords in your anchor text, but the point is that you need to make sure you vary the keywords you use in your anchor text. Don't choose just one keyword and keep using it over and over again. It will look very unnatural in the eyes of Google.

In addition to the main keyword you use in your anchor text, add other keywords as well as mentioned in the article above.

SEO tools are still worth using. I think what the article is saying is that black hat / gray hat tools are in danger of getting shut down by Google. So use white hat SEO tools instead.

Variation of anchor text is hogwash.

Anyone who tells you to use "click here," is just looney.

Talk about black hat! Trying to get around algos by
varying anchor text would be a classic case trying
something black hat. Which, google is trying to
      eliminate.

Varying anchor text, and using the SAME ways and places for
      links, is just plain looney.

Instead of varying anchor text, why not get some real links in
      places that are helpful?

I know. That's too much work. It sounds so much easier to
      just vary anchor text.

Completely agree. People go out of their way to game, when doing the right ...no sensible ...thing is often easier.

When are ppl going to get the clue? Don't believe everything you read. Nothing is written in stone.

Use common sense with a little of your own testing and you'll experience more success than what any half-truth or non-truth article can tell you. What works for one niche may not work on another niche.

      Know your audience and adapt.

I don't cater to Google or any other search engine. I cater to the audience that surrounds the niche. If you think about it, You can bring Google to its knees without even thinking about it. Google chases users...dominate the users in your niche...Google crumbles and succumbs. You need only use enough SEO to let the search engines know how You want to be indexed and where. Make Google your *itch.

        Hi klauzer,

        As paulgl stated, it's "hogwash".

There is a lot of Cargo Cult SEO crap being spread around and you have gotten a hold of some the nonsense that gets spread around this forum. I have plenty of data that contradicts that notion.

Trust me when I tell you that varying your anchor text isn't going to fool Google into thinking webspam isn't actually webspam. They are a bit smarter than that. Webspam is always webspam, no matter how much you vary the anchor text, that's a fact.

This whole BS started after Penguin hit people for low quality links. Most low quality link builders sent out thousands, and thousands of links with the same anchor text or only a few variations.

People jumped to the conclusion that these sites got hit for lack of anchor text variety instead of realizing it was the piss poor links that did the damage. Wouldn't have mattered what anchor text they used.

  • Having links in bad neighborhoods will hurt and so will identical anchor text emanating from 200 different sites. It is not an either/or situation. Until you can create such compelling content that people are moved to beat their way to your door begging you to please allow them the privilege of putting your link on their site, changing anchor text will do in a pinch. And oh yes stay away from the bad neighborhoods, only put links on site that are PR3 and above.

Two more questions. When linking to a website with a anchor text "click here for more info" or "keyword" should we link a top domain or a page in a domain?

What about our signatures. Every post we create here will be a link to some website. If it is our own websites we link to. It will get allot of backlinks but should we use keywords?

    Hi Klauzer!

In regards to your new questions, you can link any kind of page to naked links such as "click here" and "visit here". It could be the money page, sub domain website, or your other web pages. The main thing is that you keep your link and anchor text diversity balanced as possible to make it natural.

When it comes to signatures, I advise you only put the naked link of your main page.
