Hi Guys,

I need your help understanding how a 301 redirect works from one site to another. We have site A that has 200 pages, that we would like to redirect to site B with 200 pages. We would obviously like to preserve all of the url structure. My questions is this.

If we are essentially using the same site on both urls, how do we avoid google duplicate content since site A and site B are essentially the same site but at different URL's?

301 redirection tells search engines that url A is now url B. So if a visitor open url A, he would automatically redirect to url B without their knowing and it's also avoid duplication.

So it your scenario, you can 301 redirection to all 200 pages and it won't create any duplication issue.

In that case 301 redirection would do the job. However, if you only purpose is to redirect it to new urls and not the backlinks on the old site, try to request for deindexation in Google of your old website to make it sure.
