I always thought when one posts on an article directory, they were hoping their article would be picked up for syndication complete with the resource box and links in tact, rather than for traffic.

It used to happen, and the technique worked to some extent 4-5 years ago,but I have never been a fan article syndication. Traffic and link juice has always been my prime concern, even at that time. Most of the sites with syndicated articles used to be MFA sites or sites with lots of affiliate links.

That's the idea but 90% of the people who use your article(s) don't backlink to your website.... and if they do, they don't may it a hyperlink.

Some of my ezine pages are PR4 though, so it is good to have your link on actual PR4 pages....

It's PR 6 article directory site, alexa rank 363 and a DO FOLLOW site. Yes, you can still have benefits on it and btw ezinearticles.com still rank on this keyword on first page.

Ezine can still rank for some low competition or longtail keywords but you have to promote your article with social bookmarks, profiles, web 2.0, wikis etc. Article quality is not an issue since you won't get approved if the article is not top quality.

I'd lean towards Squidoo, Hubpages, Weebly, YouTube, etc. Just a lot easier to work with than ezinearticles. And, IMO, they rank better.

Completely agree with you, I too use Squidoo, Hubpaes and Youtube.

      SlideShare.net also drives good traffic.

Sometimes I don't get this, there's a lot of talk here about being entrepreneurs yet people here still have employee mindset. Putting quality materials on Squidoo, Hubpages, Weebly, Youtube, Slideshare, etc is akin to work for them. You're building their business as you create assets for them.

Agree with you there. One of my best writers submitted 10 articles and after 10 straight rejections he moved to better sites.

I have so many articles on Ezine and some of them attract a lot of traffic. So I guess it does attract some referral traffic. The main problem with Squidoo is that you need to update your content there regularly, else they just put that "-" sign in front of the lens and your lens is no more in search results. However, at Ezine your articles stay forever with your sites' back links.

I really don't think it drives as much traffic as it used to. I used to get lots of traffic to a site from ezine but it slowed to a crawl after awhile.

    • While Ezinearticles doesn't provide the same results as it once did, it still is the best article directory out there. If you write quality content and post it on this site, you will get traffic and backlinks to your website.

I get a heck of a lot better luck on my blog than to mess with wasting an article on ezine. The reason why I did not like ezine is that it is annoying to try and get through the article approval process.

    Hi IMShazia,

Are you planning on using EzineArticles for getting traffic to your site?

EzineArticles is still driving traffic, yes. But definitely not as much as before.

But you can still do well using it to target long tail keywords, supporting it with other Web 2.0 sites, etc.

Like MissTerra mentioned, you might want to publish on EzineArticles with an aim towards getting your articles syndicated by other high traffic websites. So optimize your content in order to reach that goal.

For driving traffic with other article sites, consider using GoArticles. There's a short case study on this thread showing the benefits:

In my opinion, it's much easier to post to ezine than hubpages or squidoo which you have to manage and update the whole time. My hubs have dropped like crazy.

I had one article (my only) on ezine, which had pretty decent CTR - 15%. It is true that in 2 years' time it got only 66 views and 9 clicks, but stats are stats

Ezinearticles still has its power to drive traffic, earn you a backlink, and get you the exposure you will need for your website, product, or service online. Just be patient with it as the campaign will take some time.

Somewhat! Actually after Panda update, Ezinearticle lost it's page rank and therefore got affected somewhat. It is used for link building and we get quality link from Ezine, but traffic not too much.

Instead, I would suggest go for Squidoo. It really boost the traffic, also we get do follow quality backlink and keyword will also boost from it's position. It really works.

In my opinion, none of article directories can drive a lot of traffic for your website specially if you are focused on average or high traffic keywords. But they are good resources for getting backlinks from.
