Blog on homepage or not?

Hi,

Me and my businesspartner are discussing if we should put our blog on the homepage or on /blog.

What is best for SEO in the long run?

Do the blogposts get less linkjuice when they are on /blog instead of the homepage? Or does that not matter?

Right now we have a long article on the homepage (with a lot of links to an external site - a salespage), which is ranking very good and the blog is on /blog.

If we switch to the blog on the homepage, how can we redirect the article on the homepage? Because if we redirect it, we don't have a homepage anymore. Also with 301 redirects we will probably lose a lot of traffic on that article.

Any good solutions and advice for the best SEO practice?

    I think this is a complicated issue and this is very unusal to redirect your blog on home page, definitely you 'll lose traffic for your home page. So i suggest you to make a special section for blog and provide a link of that page in home page and also highlight that. Otherwise you can create a another page with great blogs.

      A Blog shouldnt be on the homepage, to me that makes absolutely no sense. Quality content is great, but having a good homepage is also way more important. Think about the quality of your site in the long run, and create a homepage worth while. Side note, make sure your redirects are 301s not 302s.

    I once did this before and I recommend you to use a separate page to do this, but it does help your website get more visitors that way.

    Both should be separate. Build your homepage and let you blog be Tier 1 to this money site. This way you can build quality links to both sites.
