Hi everyone, I have started my first new site and am having problems with my on page SEO, I have sorted some things out i think but I really need to improve it as it will be essential for my SEO.

I did an online check and the results were not very good. Where could I find someone to go through it and fix things up? I can't afford to pay much but don't mind paying a small amount to get it sorted.

I have searched online but I just don't know what I should do improve the on page SEO.

Not sure where you checked, but you can use our keyword density checker at whatsmyserp.com. It will highlight multiple keyword/phrases in the density results you are interested in and also reports on your title, description, meta tags, h1, h2, and h3.

Use it to check your competitions on-page SEO also.

you can also do a search on google for a keyword you're trying to rank for. Then get the first few organic listing urls and copy those into google keyword tool. This will spit out a bunch of onpage terms that you can use.

For you main page, I wouldn't show excerpts of your recent posts, I'd have a "page" optimised or your main keyword your going after and just have a recent posts widget in the side bar.
If you want a good free tool help you to optimise your posts/pages check out bloggerhigh.com's seo tool. It is dead easy to use and scores you by percentage on how well optimised your content is and tells you where to improve your score. Although, apparently Google is now punishing over-optimised sites so don't over do it!

        Thanks for the replies.

How do I add excerpts on the homepage with wordpress?
Would I go for the static page option? and if so can I still have at least some of my latest posts beneath the excerpts?

        Danny

Hi Danny, Sorry can't send PM's yet (need to get to 50 posts). What I would do is go for a static page on home page and would have a widget in the sidebar that shows recent posts. There is a free plug-in you can get called "add-post-footer" which allows you to add "related posts" to the end of your post and/or pages.
You can use it to add Google Adsense to the end of every post too (very handy). The related posts it picks at random too on page load, so it keeps things fresh for the search engine crawls too.
If you want to see it in action I have it on a weight loss blog: aliweightloss.net

          Regards

Adam very informative critique. Sorry to hijack the thread. My site got a hit in EMD update and will love your feedback on my site: New 2013 2014 Toyota Hilux and Used 2011 2010 2009 2008 Minor Change Vigo Thailand. Toyota Fortuner, Landcruiser, Prado, Nissan Navara 4x4 Pickup Truck SUV Dealer. 2007 2006 2005 2004 Hilux from Thailand Australia NZ UK and Dubai Dealer. I want to see if you think it is over-optimized or not.

In addition to what Adamw said, I would like to add...

When using a related posts plugin, it's probably a good idea to limit the number of related posts that you are pulling onto the end of each post. Don't add too many. Especially if you are using shared hosting, as related post plugins can cause heavy loads on the server, especially if you are getting a lot of traffic.

Also, too many related entries can cause the page load time to slow, and this might affect your rankings as well...

Just place your keyword in the page title, meta description and keep a on-page density around 1-2%, other than that, it's all about have a quality page, try adding images, videos and I recommend putting the facebook comment plugin on your site, those comments get indexed plus it raises the social proof of your site...

The best way to improve search engine visibility is try to do link building through article submision, social bookmarking and directory submission. This is gradual process and takes time. First of all decide the keywords you want to rank and and use them as anchor text to link to your site.
