Adsense Text Based Ads Not Showing Many

Hi,

I was wondering if somebody could explain how it works with the Adsense text based adverts.

If using the Large rectangle, it looks like that at maximum it will display 4 text adverts within the rectangle. I have a blog and a few of the pages are about weight loss which I would have thought there are plenty of people wanting to advertise in this niche but when looking at the adsense rectangle on my page, a lot of the time it only has 1 text advert in the middle of it.
What I also can't understand is if I swap the large rectangle for the skyscraper, then 5 text adverts will show up within that one.

What I want to know really is why a lot of the time does only 1 advert show up in a niche that I thought would have a lot of advertisers and also why do more text adverts show in the skyscraper than the large rectangle?

The page is fairly well optimised and is ranking pretty high in the weightloss niche and for good measure I have thrown a few keywords in the text which Google keyword tool is reporting as being competitive.

    Hi Dan,

    If you have single ad in your large ad unit then you have a top paying advertiser that has bid high enough to purchase all of that ad space. This is a good thing.

      Ah right that makes things clear now, I was thinking it meant that there wasn't enough advertisers to fill the thing.

    What I mean is, as an example. If I have one sky scraper text advert on my site, then within that ad block 5 text ads show. If I remove that sky scraper and replace it with a text based large rectangle, a lot of the time only 1 companies text advert shows within that adblock. I was just trying to work out why more companies text ads show in the skyscraper than the large rectangle.

    This is a good question, I have not seen before this question but large rectangle often get more clicks than skyscraper.
