Hi all,

I know there are lots of varying views on this but is an EMD really that important? I've always believed content to be king where Google is concerned but for a MNS is it more important for the domain to be exact match?

Interested to learn other people's views on this

Thanks,

P

      Exact Match Domain

So if you were trying to rank for keywords "buy secondhand porsche" then the domain would be www.buysecondhandporsche.com

You are indeed correct when it comes to quality content. Keyword matching isnt really the way forward anymore

I think having a well thought out domain name is helpful for attracting visitors to your website but its the content that keeps people on the website and possibly coming back.

I'm about to create a few more sites but surprise surprise majority of the emd are already taken with parking pages

    Hi Aspg!

EMDs still play a role in SEO ranking but not as much before. You still have to use your money keywords with EMDs to rank. However, you should balance it with naked links and other anchor texts that do not match with the domain.

For example, in every article that requires two links in it, it is advisable to put 1 EMD keywords and 1 naked links in order to set the tone of balance.

      Hi jclindayag,

Thanks for the info about the linking...I'll give it a try.

I think the main thing I'm asking is if you cant get the emd of choice would this stop you from creating a site and targetting that keyword?

      Thanks,

      P

As per matt cutt guideline regarding EMD, exact match domain not the completely degrade the value of your keyword reach domain name, just need to focus rather than more focus on brand image of your domain. such as like Facebook, twitter, etc..

Suppose i have own travel business, targeting keywords which is "india tour" and my domain is also EMD like indiatour and even targeting hyperlink also such as india tour, and my competitor also targeting india tour, but his domain which is travelrhythm, so matt cutt questions were how can i treate a value for both domain to assist in right way..

After this i will suggest you to take first EMD domain. IF it is possible rather than else..it's quite a little effect, such as nano seconds. one more important things which is content only, and publish your back links only authority sites.

  • EMD (Exact Match Domains). Google had updated its algo to counter this kind of domains. They have just devalued the benefit EMD had got before this. So EMDs are now not that much helpful.

EMD's are no longer effective. As a matter of fact, Google penalizes low-quality EMD sites that clearly have unnatural links pointing to them.

    Go after branded domains.
