Question About Breadcrumbs

Right now, I'm in the process of adding breadcrumbs to my site. It's a static site (built with Dreamnweaver), and there are scripts I could use, but I like to keep the code minimal. I'm adding it as a div and doing the breadcrumbs manually for each page. My question is what to call the link to "Home." Most use home. Some have advocated inb the past to use your main keyword for maximum SEO. I used to believe that, but I think now things have changed during the last year and it would raise red flags to Google and pretty much alert them that you are targeting that word for your home page. That seems to be a fast way to get you sent to the back of the SERPS these days.

What is your opinion? Home? Keyword? Mix it up?

  • Use 'home'. That's no place for keywords.

Breadcrumbs are good, but not in the way you want to do so.

You do a few things, one way is to make the Home text a hyperlink.

    Example:
Maybe use a banner image/logo as the home link, which is typical for most sites.

A breadcrumb is just to tell the traffic where they are on the site (the path).

    • My header logo is linked to home. Would you link the destination page with a link to itself?
