If you want to instant traffic for your website then you can use PPC is the best but no free, if you want free traffic for your website then you can use social networking websites.

Have you tried guest blogging? its very much effective for backlinks and traffic. Social media sites too like facebook and twitter are also good.

There are too many methods. but the best method is SEO to any keyword. If you keep on doing SEO for a good cause and build links naturally then you can achieve too many things.

Maybe it depends on what kind of website you are optimising but Most of the Time the sources of traffics are from Youtube or video sites, Guest Blogging, Email Marketing and etc.
