Hi,
After 4 months effort, i am still unable to rank my website at first page against keyword "san diego real estate"

I have tried every thing from profile links to guest blogging, but nothing seems to work.
Can any body please guide me about ranking a realestate website.

Thank you

Social bookmarking, SMO, and forum posting are a waste of time to rank locally.

To the OP, you mentioned nothing about setting up your Google Places page, getting listed in local business directories for citations, or getting links from local community sites. Those are the things you should be focusing on.

You could also do guest blogging, and buy links from local clubs / stores that are semi related. You could even offer an incentive. Send them something in the mail and put a card with it askin for them to link to you.

I wouldn't bother with stores and clubs for a real estate site.

I would be soliciting the local Chamber of Commerce if the business is not already listed there and do a search for local websites. Lots of towns and cities have sites like "Visit San Diego" with all kinds of local info. You can often get a listing on those. Some charge. Some don't. Either way, you need to be listed in them.

I'm guessing you have never done local SEO for anyone. Just a card with a nice note will end up just being a waste of a stamp. If you are going to go the route of begging for links, you need to pick up the phone and contact these people personally.

I have done local seo. But it doesn't matter. Just my own opinion. He could send a nice related gift to local shop owners and get a link. End of story.

Is suspect your page and you have nothing to do with San Diego,
            or in fact, real estate.

Unless you are a real estate agent or broker in San Diego, what's
the use? To try and shmooze google with some MFA on San Diego
            real estate?

No "real" real estate agent or broker would be looking to shmooze
google. They won't have to. There's this little thing called
advertising, yellow pages, among other things.

Why do people keep coming up with the same old shtuff, like
backlinks, guest blogging, and more nonsense? You think google
and those terms are going to be swayed by such useless junk?

You need a lot of backlinks and the time spent to build real estate website based on my experience you need 6-2 years.

Absolutely, you need to look at the competition before you try to target a keyword like that. Read my prior post it may help you to grasp this keyword.

I checked it in both SEOmoz and google keyword suggestion tool. I know it's a fairly high competitive keyword but 2 year is way too much (if optimization is being perform properly )

6 month should be well enough to get into top 5

It's a process. Check your Meta tags, etc.

First, you need to look at your competition. San Diego Real Estate is probably an insane keyword. Use SEO Moz-open site explorer to take a look at competition in the top 3 spots. This will give you an idea of how many/what links you should be getting. Sometimes I actually look at competitor links and try to get some of the ones they have as well for that keyword. In addition, you can use a number of tools to look at competitors. If you are asking this question on this forum then you obviously dont know how hard it is to rank for that keyword. Make sure you do some research, its going to take wayyyyyyy longer than 4 months and a couple hundred backlinks for that keyword. I assume it may take a couple years and thousands of backlinks from high quality sites.

I'm assuming you mean the meta keyword tag, and considering no major search engine uses that meta tag anymore, that is a pretty useless exercise.

None of this stuff will help a real estate agent in San Diego.

No real estate agent would even be thinking about such stuff.

Any wonder why google keeps trying to crack down?

San Diego real estate is for google maps/places, and above all,
advertising, word of mouth, leg work, etc. Not about shmoozing
        search results.

Buying links of high quality is really your best option besides ensuring the local factors are done like mentioned above by Mike.

I guess you need to adopt local seo techniques. Create google place pages, try to get listed on local directories (of targeted location)
