Are labels/tags any use for on page SEO?

I've just added a tags cloud to my (blogger.com) blog which includes all my main keywords.

Is this tag cloud relevant for on page SEO?

Or would I be better with an individual homepage link to all my articles about each individual keyword? (I have written individual articles about each of my keywords)

Or maybe both?

Many Thanks

Yes, meta tags are still useful and relevant for on page SEO, as long as the tags are done right and used or implemented wisely and appropriately. Just make sure to use the right tagging for titles and sub headings. So, meta tags like keyword, description, and page title should be appropriately labeled and not spammed.

  • Cricket,

The tag cloud is a tool that allows you to easily organize categories of posts however it does not provide any SEO value. Having keywords on your pages will do this however the categories or labels do not work in the same way and will also not provide link authority to other pages of the blog. Their sole purpose is one of usability for visitors.

Further, Google does not use the keyword meta tag as a factor in search. In fact, Bing actually uses this to identify spam sites.

Here are Google’s thoughts on the keyword meta tag (they have not looked at this factor in years),

Google doesn’t use the keywords meta tag in web search

Here is more info on tage clouds,

    Hope that helps,

Actually it does not make any impact nor does it spams your site in Search results and Google bot will not consider it.

I have seen that tags are crawled by Google and they appear in search results. They acquire PR too. Not sure if they have or don't have any effect in SEO.

It is a good practice to put them. I doubt they help SEO though.

Looks like not many people even know what those tags are.

Those tags, as well as virtually all tags in blogs are for YOU
and YOUR visitors to find other similar posts.

      SEO? Fat chance.

Nothing to do with meta, but meta keywords are useless too.

The tags are for internal filing. Nothing more, nothing less.

You can fill your tags with ANYTHING you want. So, how on earth
would that work for SEO, or even be considered?
