The updated pagerank of your website is now found on your toolbar.

For what it's worth, I moved my site to a new domain name and put in 301 redirects from the old domain.

The new domain now has PR3, which is what the old domain had.

Only two of my sites have changed and they didn't move much. Otherwise my network is still going strong and passed the google update (as expected).

So I have a site that is PR2 with a good variety of natural backlinks. I wanted to increase its PR, so I paid for a PR5 link on a legitimate, real site with real traffic and with good backlinks, and <10 OBL. However, after this update, my site is still PR2. I was expecting at least a jump to PR3. The page I bought the link from is still ranked PR5 with a high DA score as well.

Any thoughts as to why I saw no movement?

The toolbar PR lags behind the actual PR by a few months. What we are seeing is actually what the PR was 2-3 months ago or so. If you just bought the link recently, you won't see any change reflected on your site from that link until the next update.

Yep but its more like four months. Just finished a case study with this PR update and will publish it later. Learned a lot of good stuff. Will even publish one of my domains to show some things (yep removed all links because doing that will make that domain toast).

Anyway Google is rather deliberately not giving up to date PR results in their tool bar. I actually switched around links to get better results and in the process made at least one site worse when it would be a PR4 now (of course it really is but that won't show until the next update.)

So like you said to everyone claiming how their site held up or didn't it has nothing to do with anything really - the tool bar update today is based on data from months ago maybe in some cases even as much as 6 months ago.

I had a site turn to PR6 this update (from a PR5) and there is not a single new link to it from the last update.

Sounds like most of you are only checking the Index page on your sites. I have an old site that I don't really mess with anymore, Index page is a PR1, with about a dozen PR4 internal pages. Just saying, PR is at page level.

I got a PR 4 for a domain registered on 10/1/2012. For that site, obviously, this PR update was not based on data from months ago.

Sure could if it has a redirect on it or it had existing links. Many many sites people think they are registering for the first time were in fact registered before. We have seen examples of it in this very forum before.

It's a completely unique domain name I made up. Wayback Machine shows it was never archived and it's an unlikely combination of letters. (I explained this in one thread I like unique domains like that use "double Os", something like "TROOTR.com."

Not only does the home page have a PR 4, but the categories are 3 and so are the "about type" pages. Not only that, but several posts are PR 2.

I also created a subdomain at WordPress.com on 10/13/2012 that is now a PR 3 and has a PR 2 blog post.

To get that on all those pages it would have had to be a very good link or links you got in that short period of time but anyway claims are a dime a dozen (especially on this board). I will publish the report with the actual domains that prove my point and to any reasonable person they will see that the update is months behind. No need for me to argue about it when I have ton loads of proof that I will show. Perhaps in some isolated cases Google updates sooner who knows? but the evidence is in and it says that the PR update is generally well behind what is the real PR months before.

There really is no need to argue about it. I know what I'm looking at, and obviously I placed PR-bearing links to the domains in question.

I could settle this 'argument' by posting the domains in question, but really, why would I?

Besides, I said 'with these domains' because only these two reacted this way. 3 other WordPresses that were linked in the same basic manner show "N/A" and a couple other are 0s. So, for the most part I agree the data is behind.

So now I'm working on figuring out exactly what was so special about these domains (or the backlinks) so I can replicated this again.

I removed a few PR 5 links to another "OO" .com I had and that domain stayed at 4, indicating the data is stale. I have quite a few experiments going on, as PageRank is a subject that has fascinated me since 2002.

Real education? Confirmable evidence beyond hearsay? but yeah I know I wouldn't have been publishing any myself if I had not been doing a study I intended to release and I wouldn't be showing a PR4 either.

Well the wordpress one I dunno ...guess google could have different rules for PR9 domains. Might want to look at that. I've never really worried about duplicating PR results until I had customers that didn't care about links just wanted to see Pr (and I have a few of those since that is what they bought). The fact is in real terms you make Pr pages the very moment a new link from a pR page is recrawled so since the whole idea is ranking no need to fuss over PR if thats all you are doing (for buying selling and building PR it makes a difference)

Yep...I'll be showing a bunch of PR domains that have lost just about all their links and still showing what they did before the update. Thats why I said the evidence is in and pretty clear.

P.S. Wayback machine doesn't show a ton load of sites that have actually been registered before. If you really want to know if a domain has been registered before recently you need a historical whois report ?(not the regular whois report).
