Linking From "Global" Sites To "Local" Site For Link Juice?

Hello Warriors:

If you are trying to add juice to a site focused on a small geographical area, do you think it matters where (in geographical terms) the links are coming from?

For example, if you had a website for a small shop selling locust cake in Timbukto (it could happen! ) and a link to it from a website listing nice locust cake shops to visit that might be based in, say, Australia (the site, that is; not the shops being listed). Obviously, if the shop is looking for customers, it seems unlikely they will be coming from there but, if the Australian site was one favoured by Google, might that help or hinder the rise of your site in the SERPs for a local keyword like "Timbukto locust cake shops" or whatever is being targeted?

(I hope all that makes sense!)

Regards,
Tommy.

    It depends.

If your shop does not have the capacity to ship the product globally...then no.

When link building for "juice"...it's all in the relevancy of the link. In other words...can the two sites create a logical relationship. Other factors play a role but not as relevant as the one I just stated.

Now...if your actually out to steal "market share", then who cares about link "juice", it's about conversions at that point.

Personally...I would take market share over link juice anyday of the year.

Tap in and dominate your market shares and Link juice comes naturally anyway.

In your case, stay locally for the juice and expand globally in your market share.

P.S. A market share can be a community that share like qualities and has demostrated an interest in your topic/product/service.

Thanks for that, Debra: I think I was changing my post at the same time you were replying. If the Australian site in the example listed "nice locust cake shops to visit" (as either the main focus of the entire site, or the focus of a sub-section of the site) instead of just a broader category of "nice shops", I'm guessing that would be an improvement over what I originally said?

      Tommy.

links are links, traffic is traffic. It sounds like you're kind of trying to mix the two in your thinking.

As far as links go, a link from a site that has a RELATED TOPIC, and good anchor text is golden.

So, if you're getting a link to your locust cake website from a best-of locust cake rating site, then that's a link from a site with a related topic. Further, if they link to you with "locust cakes" in the anchor text, then that is the best kind of link to get.

Quite probably... I just have something in my mind about all this that I don't think I know how to properly articulate!
