Have you ever set up a campaign and you get no impressions.

Then you wait and wait.....still no impressions.....

Then you raise your bids....still nothing..

Then you raise your daily budget and go to bed.

You then wake up the next day and Google has slammed you with thousands of impressions and clicks and your broke.

Well here are a few tips to help you with this:

Even though you can tell in the search network why your ad is not showing by looking at the hour glass next to the keyword there still is an instance that can be confusing. Google flags certain keywords, or if your ad even has particular keywords in it it will not show until a human comes around to review it. This is rare, and I have only recently found this with bidding on the keyword "adwords".

Any image ad on the content network needs human approval. Google cannot risk having ads that do not meet their criteria on their partners sites. So you thus must wait. I have waited up to 3 or 4 days and there is NO way of knowing what is going on. You either all of a sudden see your ads start running or you get an email saying your ad was disapproved.

Wouldn't be nice if that little hour glass told you?

For text or image ads running on the content network that are not getting impressions it may just be that you are not bidding enough. After waiting 3 or 4 days raise your bids and or daily budget a bit and see if this helps.

Also, if you change ANYTHING in your ad...even putting a www in front of the display URL or even changing the destination URL your ads will again be flagged and you again have to wait until a human comes around to approve them.

I also am 100% convinced that ad approval is very subjective. I have had image ads running that where getting tons of impressions and all I did was change the destination URL to point to another tracking server, and the next reviewer that came around disapproved the ad. It was the EXACT same ad, no change!!!!

Once you start getting impressions and wish to make a change to an ad just copy your ad and modify the copy. This way you are garenteed that your ads will stay running......

Finally, If you are still having problems contact Google and ask them. They usually get back to you within a day.

That's some great advice there. I get questions all the time asking me "Why don't I have any impressions."

Here is detailed example of how much money you can loose if you do not copy ads before changing something.

I forgot to copy my ads and just changed all the URLS.....had to wait 4 days for human review......

After waiting 4 days human reviewer now has said my ads where not relating to their guidelines and disapproved them (remember I did not change the ad just the URL..so why was it disapproved now?).

I then copy and delete the campaign and create a new one.....wait 4 days.....ads disapproved again.....

I yet again copy and then delete the campaign and then change the ad and use 1 ad only.....

I then wait 5 days and finally get approval.

So as you see this has cost a lot of time (and thus money) over forgetting to copy my ad before changing anything.
