WHY Exactly Would They Beat Me?

I've acquired links slowly over 7 months.

My links are better quality than what people have been persuing pre-pengin

I have over 50 pages of tightly related content. It's all original and readable.

I have good and varied interlinking between pages

Yet I'm being beat by a "Hello World" blog that has ZERO articles and only a domain name (similar to mine -- semi-EMD) They have 3 backlinks compared to my 200

I'm sure you've seen it before. What are they doing right? Sometimes it seems "Less Is More"

    I think you should provide more details about the website and the URL and somebody who is really experienced in SEO could probably analyze the situation. All I know from what you said is that this is nothing really unusual to me since I've seen many situations like that but there are always some reasons for that.

    I think, You should add a unique and informative content on your website or you should change the structure of your website design.

    compare your social media footprints. Without looking at either site Id be willing bet you have little none social media presence and the other guy does.

    I think the semi-EMD may be the issue. If I were you I would register a new "brandable" domain name, migrate the content to the new domain, 301 all the old pages to the new pages except the home page. Build a few links to the new domain's home page and see what happens in 3-4 weeks. Also, be a bit looser with the on-site optimization and link anchor text.

    I've found with EMDs Google is quite random as to who gets slapped and who doesn't. It seems to come in waves. You were probably unlucky enough to be in the first wave.
