Is "results first" or "performance based" seo a load of bs?

Ok so something is bothering me. More specifically a company that was recommended on "topseos.com" .... and topseos.com was recommended by a few people in a WF thread I made a long time ago.

We were looking for a good SEO company, and decided to give a place a try, their name is, "resultsfirst.com". How their system works, you basically pay a deposit of $600, then for every keyword that moves to the 3rd page or higher, you pay per keyword.

With rates increasing for page 2 and 1 increases.

I liked this SEO model, because you pay an initial deposit, then everything afterwards, you're basically paying for results.

Now this is what has been bothering me. Although I like the seo part of their business model, I'm quickly growing to hate their overall business model.

These people were very easy to get in touch with before making the deposit, and even after making the deposit. After we paid, they said they'd be sending over a couple of detailed questionaires. I took a few hours and filled them out. Then I sent these questionairres to them 2 weeks ago.

Now, for some odd reason, I can't get in touch with them.
I am NOT saying they're a scam, because we've called up clients in their testimonial section, before working with them, and they had fairly balanced things to say about them. Overall, most people seemed to like them.

But most people aren't marketers. And most people don't pay attention to the details that I pay attention to. Like if I call your business 10 times over the course of a week, and email you.... and you don't get back to me one time, that tells me that you are not worthy of my time & money.

Which is basically whats going on now.

So my question is, how would you guys approach this situation?
How long should I wait before I issue a chargeback?

We were assigned an account manager, and this guy NEVER picks up his phone. Like I said, I don't have time to deal with this type of petty bs. So I need some type of plan. What would you guys do?

Thanks WF - Red

ps. heres is their site for anyone who may be curious:

Generally, as a rule, I believe you shouldn't leave your customer hanging for more than 24 hours (over weekends maybe 48 hours if you're REALLY unable to contact them).

If you paid, and now they're gone, I don't know what to say. I don't know the company so can't say whether they can be trusted or not. Have you seen any increases in rank over the past few days? Any new backlinks getting indexed?

If not, it's good that you're asking questions. Keep nagging them and maybe give them another week for good measure. If you don't get a reply (or notice that you haven't received any service up to this point), take it further.

    Good luck.

Their business model is flipped around...it's perfect for their
      business, not yours.

Here's a better idea. You put $600 in an escrow account for 90 days.
Each keyword that fits your parameters, gets $100 deducted to them. End of
90 days, you get refunded what's left.

Their system is skewed in their favor.

I'm curious as to how much time is supposed to elapse from deposit
      to results.

Why you are giving them free backlinks is beyond me. Nobody does
      that unless they like them.

  • Red,

Aside from the poor customer service, have they delivered what they promised? If so, I would finish out the contract and then move on to someone else as good customer service is obviously paramount. If they haven’t delivered, then perhaps you should consider the chargeback. In any event, if you have already given them money and they haven’t delivered something in return, you may be hard pressed to get it back. Paulgl hit the nail on the head that their model is built in their favor. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as many SEO companies do this (even reputable ones).

You could also go above the account manager’s head to complain about service. Perhaps that will get you somewhere.

Perhaps the tips in this thread will help you choose a better company next time around,

What happens when you stop ranking for those keywords/ you cancel their service? Just paid a bunch of money for no reason. Pay for performance as in the links you get-quality/quality content. They could be ranking you any way they can to get money-I.E. Blackhat.

Zomg, isn't it obvious that paying 600$ bucks as an initial payment is an overkill? There is a lot of crap on the web and on wf too nowadays, especially in the seo field. What can you do? Nothing, because you agreed on their terms of use prior to making the installment.

Not sure about topseos website, but it looks like they are just free for all list, making money off the listings. Do you believe they could possibly offer you any assurance? Without even meeting these providers? Common...

There are even top websites that NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO- fail and offer 99% of trololo, for example alibaba.com for the products, and freelancers.com for the freelancers, ye roight...

If you ask my opinion, I would better go for the authorities that I know, like these recommended by SEO moz for example: Recommended List of SEO, Social Media, Content, Hosting and Web Marketing Companies | SEOmoz
    - I haven't tried it, but at least I know what SEO Moz is about...

Dont trust anything TOPseos puts out there. A buddy of mine just started working for a company that's top across the board on TopSEOs rankings. He quit because they sell hot air. The company was charging its clients $15k/mo for 20 Web 2.0 links and a few PR submissions. Oh, and you get 2 infographics a YEAR.

How in the world are they one of the topseo rated companies?

This company is a waste of time and money, they have no idea what they're doing. had their service for over four months and hardly saw any results. they keep you on back burner with minimal results so they can keep billing you monthly.
    I wouldn't recommend this company.
