Are People on Here Just Not Listening?

Even in the wake of Penguin/over optimization related updates in Google people are talking on here about using your keyword wherever and whenever possible. Also talking about article directories, Squidoo, other methods pretty much exclusively which I thought didn't work on their own.

Are people having success with these methods again? Have the rules changed back to 2009-2010 or are people just not paying attention?

What do article directories and squidoo have to do
    with anything?

They work. In their own right. Still do. In fact, maybe
    better than ever.

    Don't know what you mean.

Good stuff has always worked. Keyword stuffing was
always bad. Who here is touting keyword stuffing?

Some people act like it's 1998 or 2004, but nobody
    worth listening to.

People have paid no attention since the beginning of time.
    Nothing's changed there.

In terms of article directories and Squidoo specifically I haven't seen many to any ranking in the SERPs on the first page since Panda and they've never been too good for link juice.

The only other thing they'd offer would be traffic but seeing as they don't rank well they're not too good for that, either. I don't know why some people gush on about them the way they do and wanted to see if I was missing something.

That's what happens when an SEO ebook from 2005 is still available for purchase in 2012.
