    It is important to have these things setted up:

    1. friendly url
    2. sitemap.xml
    3. good and relevant different titles and meta description and keywords
    4. Social sharing buttons ( it is not seo must but it is very simportnat ))

    This is all ... do not insist on magical formula with keywords density.

    The most important thing is absolutely unique content with articles as large as possible and media rich.

    This is all regarding On page seo nowadays!!

    2% keyword concentration. Try to write at least 500-600 words. Use a couple of pictures. Keywords in title and description. Anchor texts on related sites. Not just anchor text for the keywords though. Multiple anchor text variations.

    Also, create sitemap on your file, submit your sitemap, use pdf file within your site's directory, check if there is any error in your site, try to put fresh content regularly...

    Setup a silo structure and use your keywords in the url post for each category level.

    For example when you're site is about dog baskets, make a category named:

    best dog baskets

    Then make articles like:

    where do I find the best dog baskets
    best dog baskets for sale
    buy the best do baskets online
    list of the best dog basket providers
    etc.

    That way your keyword shows up in your post url each time and will help to strengthen your category page.

    Do the same with another category like "dog basket reviews", this way it starts to look a bit keyword stuffed but Google is fine with it and you build a ton of relevancy for the homepage that way so it will become easier to rank for your main keyword.

      Thanks for the message, very informative and useful. Can this approach be used by a car dealer? FOr instance if I use this for Toyota Landcruiser how would I do it. THis does not sound right with word 'best' in the phrase. What alternate phrasing would you suggest:

        In your case I would base the categories on the model:

        Toyota Land Cruiser
        Toyota 4x4 Pickup
        Total Yaris

        And then make the posts like

        Toyota Land Cruiser New
        Toyota Land Cruiser Second hand
        Toyota Land Cruiser Parts
        Toyota Land Cruiser Repair Service
        Toyota Land Cruiser Dealer
        etc.

        Obvious you have to do some kw research so that you write a post about things that people search for, otherwise it doesn't make much sense imo.

        No offense but that Toyota site in your forum sig. doesn't even remotely resemble a car dealer site, all your doing is stuffing keywords. Right now it's extremely obvious all your thinking is "What does Google SERPs want?", start thinking "What does my traffic want?". Google picked up on that keyword stuffing trick back in 1999.

        Overhaul the site & build a real site If your serious about having a business.

        Even the gmail address doesn't look like a real car dealer site. Setup an email on your domain/host then forward the email to your gmail, the traffic will only see an email from your domain (ex: name@domain.com).

    Content is KING as usual and it should be unique and should be written for human but not for search engines.

    Other than that, proper categorization of pages.

    As nik0 says above, feed users on what they are searching for, I mean, just do keyword research and see what people are really searching for? At initial stage target for long tail keywords which has decent amount of monthly searches and write an article on that topic and give all information in details. Of course, this will help you to get more traffic and it will be a base to get rank for competitive keywords later on.... This method is being taught by many SEO courses nowadays and of course, it is successful strategy too..!!

    P.S : Apart from on-site, these days SYNDICATION & Social Signals really rocks...

    First of all, you have to do on-page optimization properly then avoid getting too many links, it won't work now, instead you have to build link slowly using authority sites.
