If you are thinking of spending any money on a backlink service or hiring a VA to work on the off page SEO for the sites in your sig....don't. Spend the money on totally revamping the sites or starting again. I think I saw the cloudy pool water one on flippa recently? (could be wrong)

Freelance sites are often not the best ones to find a good SEO provider, many of the people with tons of reviews have been doing the same old stuff for years, back then it might have worked but nowadays it brings your site in dangour so the reviews are worth totally nothing.

Now that also counts for forums of course. The best thing is to educate your self a bit and then decide to invest in your own network or outsource it to someone who knows what he's doing.

So read your self into the topic and start asking providers detailed questions about how they setup their network and such. If they don't have a network then just skip them, you're not waiting for someone to only build links at web2.0 and other platforms, those links are way too weak to make a difference so no network is a no go.

Some questions that you can ask about their network:

      - Where is it hosted (SEO-hosting or real unique IP's)

      - Is the content spun or not (in case of 400 blog posts for $50 or anything like that then it's clear that the content is not unique

      - Ask stats about their network sites like DA/PA/Citation-Trust Flow and ask them if they agree with a refund when the stats are real poor

      - What do the sites look like? Are they themed in a certain way? I mean if you just get random sites with some free WP theme and 1000's of different articles then it looks pretty unnatural, this in combo with SEO hosting is a recipe for failure. What we do is set them up as review, bookmark, web directory, news, social sites so that it still makes a bit sense when there are 100's of different topics. Most don't take that little extra effort.

Some other things that are a sign to avoid a service:

      Tier 1 links:

      - 100s of article directory submissions
      - 100s of web directory submissions
      - 100s of blog comments
      - 100s of forum links
      - 100s of social bookmarks
      - 100s of web2.0's

Actually anything that comes in large amounts based on 1 link type.

      Tier 2 links to avoid:

      - 1000s of blog comments
      - 1000s of xrumer/forum links

The theory is simple, if it hurts your money site then it also hurts your back links.

There is nothing wrong with tier 2 linking when you do it in a responsible way though, if you have 100 tier 1 links and you point 1000 links at that then it's only 10 links per link, which is pretty normal. But blasting 10 links with 10.000 blog comments is definitely not normal and will hurt your site right through the tier.

Maybe you should read this post a few times as most of the crappy services are covered in it, you'll be surprised how many of the offers that you see won't qualify, probably 90%+ of what is offered in the WSO section and at Freelance sites and then I'm pretty mild.

I agree with forum spam, Xrumer services will never do you any good. But 100's of links of the same sites won't hurt if you do it right (won't go into details as to WHAT is right, because the answers to that is all over the place). Remember that these sites are all on different platforms, so 100 web 2.0 sites (for example) will be on 10 different platforms, etc.

I use age-old techniques that's been working for years and still works. I'll maybe tweak it a bit after each major update, but the basics of SEO will always be the same. On-page SEO and competitor analysis is where the magic starts...

The one that guarantees for results or money back. Simple as that. It gives you both assurance and security if the SEO service has a long time track record.

VA? I always ask myself what's the value of my time and the return. Train that VA or that partner a.k.a risk that could be great long term or complete headache short term. Since most of the SEO services out there rely on quantity, the monthly price of a VA could be replaced (and be cheaper) with a monthly linking campaign of an SEO linking supplier. Our energy, time and money for that kind of time investment in a VA might not be required. Depends your daily work schedule and what kind of niche you're in. GL

Post-penguin, for SEO, I would do what I control really well. I would not want people to build runawat links to my site.

So for that, do whichever you choose to be more appropriate. If you feel you have found a VA that you can instruct clearly and get the exact work you want to be done then that's great. If you find a great service provider that you know does exactly what you want to then that's great too.

Your real question is not whether you want a service or a VA. IF you look at it carefully, you are probably asking whether you should trust the quality/reliability/experiences of a service versus your own experience/intelligence that drives the project.

If you have a steady work flow coming in then you probably need a VA but if it's just something that you need done from time to time then you'll probably be better of with a service. Hiring a VA entails that you have tons of stuff that you need to delegate so you can do other things (generally speaking).

It really depends on time that you have. Usually SEO is a part of marketing and marketing is a part of other business process. So, if you have some time to put with SEO, you can hire VA and manage your SEO project by yourself with help of VA. I don't think it is expensive, You can find lots of VA who offers quality services at affordable cost via internet.

On the other hand, If you have no time or limited time to put on your SEO campaign, it is wise to hire SEO consultant / SEO Freelancer or SEO Companies to do so. These guys can manage SEO campaign for you and you do not have to mange it. You can just check out the results and report and have an eye on the progress. It is less-time consuming compare to hiring VA and managing.

It really depends on your business and time which you can allocate.

The best back links service is 3 way link exchange.

And yes if you go for paid link that will be expensive too, but eventually you will get good value out of it if you have good link exchange strategy.

I would like mention a few points over here:

The landing page and the target page should be relevant from the keyword perspective.
Both have to have quality content in it.
Both the pages should be relevant from the keywords in the URL point of view.
The target page should have high page rank and plenty of high quality back link since page rank is always directly proportional to the number of high quality back links.
The more quality back link you can gather the more page rank you will get.
